Wolf Legend

The monster's howl sends shivers down my spine and adrenaline rushing through my body. I carry on. I must, to simply get out of here. Padding footsteps to my right. I halt, fretfully scanning the surrounding blackness for movement. I find none so I move on. Rustling bushes, snapping twigs. I spin and catch a brief glimpse of crimson in the shadows. It is near, I can feel it. Can the thing smell fear? What am I doing here? Questions reel through my mind, replaying over again. This is crazy. Stupid, illogical dare. My friends will hear from me when I get home. If I get home.

This monster has been on the silent prowl for a few weeks now. Rumours circulate everywhere about what it could be...

Big Foot? No, too quiet. Sasquatch? No, too inconspicuous. The Blair Witch? No, too solid. People have seen this beast. The Abominable Snowman? Definitely not, its too warm here.

What is it? Children vanish from the village every second day and the elders are on the verge of a full scale panic. I am only fifteen, what good can I do out here in the dark?

A low snarl breaks my concentration. I freeze instinctively as it slinks out of the inky stillness of the night. My eyes widen hugely and I stare like a deer caught in headlights.

The massive wolf is four feet taller than me, its head cocked to one side. It appears to be considering me and I feel the wild impulse to bow. The urge overwhelms my self control and I sweep forward, my head dipped down. My phoenix hair almost touches the hard, baked earth beneath my feet.

I never knew that the giant black wolf mentally forces all its victims to bend before it by its sheer strength of will power. All I knew was the incredible weight of its great paw cracking my spine and how I became physically paralyzed.

My total mental capacity functioned very well though. I felt every heavy blow to my body. I felt it but could not scream. I felt the wolf break my arms, my legs. With every snap, a wordless cry escapes my lips. Excruciating agony ain't the half of it. I am in a passion of fiery pain.

As my mind screams out for me to die, the huge wolf steps toward me, seeming to smile with its sharp blades for teeth. I stared into its red eyes as the wolf crushed my skull with one lethal swipe of its taloned paw.

The pain in my eyes dies along with me and I drop to the ground like a fallen stone.

I am gone and the wolf legend lives on.

Bloodlust

Skyler Levi is fourteen years old and thinks he's normal. He has his best friend, Selena Davies and he goes to school in London. He has no clue what is happening when people he knows start going missing. He doesn't know why he continues to wake up, mere metres away from dead people. Victims with perfectly round holes near their pulse points.

The first person was Skyler's neighbour. She was found in a dark alley, eyes wide, holes in her throat. Not realising what was going on, Skyler continued to report the bodies, not revealing how he'd discovered them.

Second to go, Skyler's Science teacher with his throat ripped out and his eyes rolled back in his skull.

As the fatal attacks went on and on, the death wounds became more and more gruesome.

Skyler's school janitor was found with both arms torn off and a sharpened broom handle protruding from his chest.

Each person's wounds failed to make Skyler upset, for reasons he couldn't understand.

Again and again, he opened his eyes to the sight of death.

The local book shop owner with a tarnished knife sticking out of her stomach. Whoever had killed her had dug the blade into her then sliced her open.

Every murder victim was drained of blood and pale. They looked as if they had been dead for months, not hours.

As each person was found, Skyler discussed each and every possibility with Selena. They explored the impossible and the mundane. The two of them even touched on vampires and armed basilisks. The thought of a huge armed snake made Selena howl with laughter. The idea of a vampire forced her to think seriously though. Puncture wounds and carefully executed animalistic attacks on humans didn't seem far past the norm for such nighttime creatures as those. As for Skyler? Well, the mention of vampires stirred something deep inside of him. He made a hasty excuse to Selena and rushed to the boys' school bathroom.

Skyler stood directly in front of the mirror and opened his mouth wide. His grey eyes bugged out and he ran the tip of his tongue lightly over the two sharp, perfect white teeth on either side of his mouth.They shot out from his gums and showed when he smiled. Why was this happening?! How come he had never noticed this before?

Skyler left the bathroom and walked slowly back to Selena. He was roughly 20 feet away from her when the wind blew her long brown hair in his direction. His nose and throat itched then burned.Skyler suddenly found himself running towards Selena. He swung her up on his back as if she weighed nothing and sprinted for the wrought iron school gates. Shouts filled his ears but he ignored them, heading for the nearest alley way. Reaching it, he tossed Selena to the ground, dismissing the whimper of pain she let out.

"Shut up!", he barked harshly.

Selena cowered away from him. Skyler flashed his pointed fangs at her and she gasped.

"You", she uttered the single word in terror.

"Obviously", Skyler snarled.

He knelt and yanked Selena's head up by the hair, sweeping part of it to the side to expose her throat. He pressed his index finger to her neck and felt the wild thrumming of her pulse beneath the thin white membrane. Skyler closed his vivid violet eyes and rubbed his nose along the pulse point, savoring the scent of the blood streaming through the girl's veins. He then touched his mouth to the pulse and felt it beat even more erratically. Selena began to tremble but Skyler locked his free arm around her waist to hold her against him. She gazed frightfully up at him at the same instant he plunged his fangs into her neck, right through the throbbing vein. He opened his mouth up further to allow the blood to flow faster into him.

He knew when she was gone, for her head lolled to one side and entire body went limp. Skyler lay Selena gently on the cold, wet ground and stared down at her.
