biography made easy
My name is Ryan McNally, I've been a Dj for over ten years now. God has it been that long!!! I've had a passion for music since I was a tot, I got my first set of turntables away back in 1996 and that was me!! Over the next year and a bit i tought myself the art of Dj'ing, not just throwing together some simple beat mixes, but learning how to lift the atmosphere within the place up and down controlling the crowd with every single track. It wasn't longer before a was churning out the demo cds for the local pubs and clubs, playing a private function here a teen disco there, but my major break came in 1997 when I joined forces with resident Dj Dan McCartney in Calico Jacks on Wednesdays to front an eclectic Student Night. Before long I was regularly joining Dan on his Saturday residence at Calico Jacks, with a no holds barred music policy we rocked the club for nearly a year.
It was around the same time that i had a little air time on Belfast's nortorious Energy 106Fm, this lead to many doors being opened for me, playing in clubs form as far north as Nero's in Portstewart to Enigma in Carrickmacross across the boarder. during this stage of my journey I played along such artists as Alice DeeJay, Des Mitchell, Lock n Load, Sash!, ATB and many more, in front of crowds of upto 3000 people at the teen events at the Ice Bowl.
Not long after I finished my time with 106, I changed my style of music from dance to R.n.B Hip Hop, although my heart will always remain with the dance. I soon took on what was going to be the longest residency so far for me, Bar Mocha had just opened its doors in Bangor and was the hottest venue it town.... I took over the venue on Wednesdays so start a Student Night, going for a mix of booty shaking R.n.B to body popping Hip Hop with a few surprises thrown in near the end. It soon became the Biggest night in town, sporting a come early policy to avoid disappointment. The Wednesday night ran for 2 and a a half years, during this time I stepped up to cover Caroline Stewart (formerly of Cool Fm) on Saturday nights to warm up for the A to the L the Theo, I soon took over from Caroline Stewart starting the night off.
About a year into my residency the Friday night opened up and i jumped at the chance to take the night and change its direction. We deviced a retro theme night and went for the Wonder Years, playing classics from the 70's 80's and 90's. the night turned around quickly appealing to many different age groups and continued up until 2005.
I moved on from Bar Mocha in 2005 in go to another one of Bangor's Finest, Cafe Ceol, again going for the Student night on the Wednesdays, this was an access all areas night with Cool fm's Pete Snodden upstairs providing the dance tracks and myself downstairs with the R.n.B.I was there till 2006.
No club or night is the same no matter what the music policy is, as new punters entered the venues every night so I always kept an ear out for their requests and were possible i played their track, resulting in my diverse range and taste in music from the late god father of soul James Brown to Bangors finest export The Discount Rhinos, so your Guaranteened a good night listening to the Ryan Mac Selection.
