From small camp to global phenomenon
Scouts from more than 160 countries have been attending a camp in Dorset marking 100 years since Robert Baden-Powell held his first one at the same venue.
The commemorative camp had an international flavour
Some of the 300 scouts assembled at Brownsea Island, in Poole Harbour, woke up at 0400 BST.
The path lights glistened through the trees and a clear Moon shone down on Brownsea, as the early risers came out of lines of turquoise tents.
They emerged bleary eyed but determined to see the sun rise on this momentous day for global scouting.
They made their way to the harbour, watched the sun rise, sang songs and talked to their new friends.

BLENCOE, Iowa (June 12) - Boy Scouts who came to each others' aid after a tornado that killed four of their comrades and injured 48 people were hailed as heroes Thursday for helping to administer first aid and search for victims buried in their flattened campsite.
Iowa rescue workers cut through downed branches and dug through debris amid rain and lightning Wednesday night to reach the camp where the 93 boys, ages 13 to 18, had huddled for safety through the twister. They and 25 staff members were attending a weeklong leadership training camp.
Lloyd Roitstein, an executive with the Mid America Council of the Boy Scouts of America, reminded reporters at a news conference Thursday that the Boy Scouts motto is "Be Prepared."
"Last night, the agencies and the scouts were prepared," he said. "They knew what to do, they knew where to go, and they prepared well."
Iowa Gov. Chet Culver praised the boys for "taking care of each other."
The tornado through the camp killed three 13-year-olds and one 14-year-old, Roitstein said. A tornado siren went off at the camp, but the scouts had already taken cover before the siren sounded. There was no time to remove them from the isolated retreat, he said.

Boy Scout receives Medal of Merit- Lifesaving Award
On April 20, 2007, eleven-year-old Boy Scout Michael Ryan Davenport was playing basketball in his neighbor’s driveway. Michael noticed that his eight year old neighbor, Nathan, had dropped out of the game and stood by the side of the driveway bent over and making wheezing sounds. Michael approached Nathan, asked if he was all right. Nathan did not respond and Michael noticed that his face was becoming discolored. Michael stepped behind Nathan and performed the Heimlich maneuver, which dislodged a piece of candy from Nathan’s throat.
Michael Davenport, Troop 460, chartered the United Methodist Church Of The Covenant in Fort Wayne, received the Medal of Merit, lifesaving award from the National Court of Honor of the Boy Scouts of America at the December 6th, Friends of Scouting kickoff breakfast for his quick action, which he learned during his past summer camp experience.

I have searched far and wide, from ends to ends,
throughout this big wide world and have found many friends.
It does not matter to me what their cultures may be,
what languages they may speak means no difference to me.
Only that I have met them and extended out my hand,
and they in turn accepted it throughout this mighty land.
Though many miles separate some of us and others just a few,
the friendships we have started are so precious and so true.
The world has so much beauty, no matter where you call home,
mountains, valleys, deserts and oceans where ever you do roam.
We may own a speck of earth here and there,
but the world was created for us to share.
So let us reach out together hand in hand,
throughout the vastness of this mighty land.
Circling the world with friendship, the greatest beauty to behold,

The bebo site was put together by the junior service team, aged 14-18, for all the younger ages of scouting to voice there oppinion of the site and to be part of the proud oxfordshire campsite...
