• 2009 Questions...

  2009: In The Beginning
  Where did you bring in the New Year?: In my bed, I was dying with the flu and a chest infection that lasted about 3 weeks
  Who were you with?: No-one.
  Did you kiss anyone at midnight?: Nope.
  Did you make any resolutions?: None. I never make resolutions - if I was that hell-bent on change I'd do it any time of the year I wanted.
  
  2009: Your Love Life
  Did you break up with anyone?: Not technically.
  Did you get anything for Valentine's day?: Probably homework from a lecturer.
  Did you meet anyone special?: I met someone I liked a lot but it petered out.
  Did you fall in love?: Nope.
  
  2009: Friends and Enemies
  Did any of your friendships end?: I wrote yes, but then I deleted it because I still hope it can be fixed.
  Did you meet any new friends this year?: Yes I did, Anna from edinburgh who I met at the Shirley Manson exhibition, all the new guys and girls in my 2nd yr class and the guys and girls at Borders and Cam Flava.
  Did you dislike anyone?: Yes. Someone in my class. No more said.
  Did you resolve any fights?: I was peacemaker caught in the middle as usual. I wish I could not give a shit but it turns out I always do.
  Who was your closest friend?: Ryan pretty much the one I've spoke to the most regularly, but there were a few others - Sam's my college and drinking buddy too
  Who did you grow apart from?: Few people I havent had time to keep up with, Nikola and the first year crew, the Wetherspoons guys and girls....
  Do you have any regrets when it comes to your friendships?: Not ever telling some of them how much I love them - I think a few of them don't realise how much I care about them, I just forget to show it.
  
  2009: Your Birthday
  Did you have a cake?: No. I don't like cake it gives me toothache!
  What did you do for your birthday?: Nothing... well I can't remember doing much.
  Did you have a party?: No
  Did you get any presents?: No. A couple of cards from my mam and da and nana.
  If so what was the best thing you got?: Nada.
  
  2009: All about you
  Did you change at all this year?: I got a bit of perspective and grew to accept a few things. I stopped smoking in June and havent broken it once!!! 3rd times a charm they say!
  Did you dye your hair?: Probably dark brown a few times
  Did you get your hair cut? Every month or so...still cant be arsed styling it.
  Did you change your style?: I've got bored of the fringe so went back to spiking my hair but in a more contemporary way
  Were you in school?: college .
  Did you get good grades? Yes I passed my HNC
  Did you have a job?: Unemployed most of the year, then got two jobs in one go: working for the administrators in Borders, and at Cam Fkava in Shawlands.
  Did you drive?: No
  Did you go on any vacations?: No
  Did you leave the country at all?: No.
  Would you change anything about yourself now?: I've put on loads of weight from giving up smoking so go figure.
  
  2009: Wrap Up.
  was 2009 a good year?: Few highs, many lows - I've been sick for pretty much most of the year but got some good out of it.
  Did 2009 bring any new insights?: Yes. I learned more about myself this year than most.
  Do you think 2010 will top 2009?: It must do. For my health and sanity.
  If you could relive any moment which would you choose?: Shirley Manson cuddling me tight. Twice.

  Do you like your hair being played with? Not really. I like playing with my hair, but someone else doing it would probably noise me up. I used to chew my hair when it was long, I miss doing that soooo much.
  
  When was the last time you completely broke down? December 9th, 2008. Middle of Scholars training restaurant. Everyone had fell out, hardly anyone turned up and the head chef was being a dick. I had a stop the bus moment.
  
  Is there a specific moment you can replay in your mind perfectly? The physical feeling of Shirley Manson holding me in her arms. And then the physical feeling of holding her back.
  
  Would you fall apart if the last person you kissed died? I would be heartbroken.
  
  Who was the last person to call you and why? Chick, to find out if I was having a drink in the Ark during the football. Obviously not.
  
  Do you think lil Wayne is the best rapper alive? No.
  
  Would you ever try being a vegetarian? Yes and gave up. Die chicken! Die Tuna! Die haggis!
  
  Do you plan on sleeping in tomorrow? Can't! Got the docs, then a funeral.
  
  Do you have a piggy bank that's actually shaped like a pig? No. I keep my loose change in a big clay heart shaped thing.
  
  What's something you really want right now, be honest? A bottle of rose wine.
  
  A week from today, will you be in a relationship? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. I've not been in one for four years so what do you think my answer would be?
  
  Are you a jealous person? I used to be; but i turned it around by using it to motivate myself do change things.
  
  When is the last time you said "I love you" to your number 1 on your top? Maybe two or three years ago, but he knows that I do so it's cool.
  
  Are you jealous of someone right now? No.
  
  Do you think you're wasting your time on the person you like? You're only wasting your time if your not learning from that person. Emotions are never truly wasted.
  
  Would you rather dye your hair or go tanning? I'd rather die my hair, although I'd love to go get tanned, I'm just forgetful and never get round to it.
  
  What was the first thing you thought of this morning? "Was THAT all the sleep I got?"
  
  Do you think you've ruined your chances with someone? Maybe. Who are you referring to? I don't know. You never know what the future holds.
  
  Do your parents yell at you constantly about "cleaning up after yourself"? Not exactly, it's just general whoever is closest gets shouted at whatever/whoever the mess is/made by.
  
  Would you pay someone to kill the person who hurt you a lot? No. Revenge is a dish best served solo.
  
  What's more important to you: good grades or having fun? Good grades. I can still have fun out of the classroom.
  
  Does it matter to you if your boyfriend drinks? Yes. I need a drinking buddy.
  
  If someone liked you right now, would you want them to tell you? Yes, please.
  
  Did you have sex today? Not unless I got raped in my sleep.
  
  Six months ago, did you like someone? I kinda fancied that boy in my mate's mate's class but I don't think he's came back to the college this year.
  
  Would you cry if you found out one of your friends were pregnant? Not sure. I'd be very happy for them though!
  
  How do you feel when someone kisses you on the forehead? If he kissed me on the lips first, then happy. If he does it instead of kissing my lips, then sad.
  
  Your best friend tells you they're gay; how do you react? WHAT THE FUCK! I'd go crazy. In fact, three friends from school have come out subsequently and it really was a COMPUTER SAYS NO moment for me. I didn't take any of the three of them pretty well. Honestly.
  
  Do you like getting big hugs? Yes. I'm a very huggy person. I think hugs show platonic affection for a person better than a shake, a quick cuddle or kiss on the cheek. I'm all for hugging your friends as much as possible.
  
  Would you kiss the last person who text you? No, he's 51 and straight!
  
  Is there one person you look at and automatically smile? Yes.

• The day I finally met Shirley Manson…

  Today started off like all my other early days: hitting the snooze button for all three 6am alarms I set every weekday morning consistently until about 7am. After a quick bath and getting ready I left the house at 8am to make the 8.20am train from Bellshill, the town where I live, into Glasgow. For reasons that are to mundane to describe it’s actually easier to get the train into Glasgow and then the express train across Central Scotland to Edinburgh than it is to just get the direct Edinburgh train from where I live. Basically my direct train stops at 18 stations on the route, and the city to city train only stops at three and takes half the time.
  
  I actually didn’t think Shirley was going to be there today; I’d assumed that she’d visit before the exhibition opened. I’ve no idea why, but I was convinced she wasn’t going to be there. Possibly because I had not came across any press releases or information to suggest she would be there for the launch. So, I didn’t wear anything Garbage-y (I did this last time and felt really embarrassed and decided I wasn’t going to do so again) and I didn’t take anything to get signed in the odd chance she might’ve been there (more on this later, besides I already have all of Garbage’s auto’s). I did take some pens and my notepad, in case there was stuff worth noting down to report on for the Garbage online community, and of course my sisters HUGE big fuck off digital camera, which I still can’t particularly work well: remember how I mucked up the pictures I took at the Harvey Nicholls’ in-store last April? Yeh, you do…
  
  So, anyway, I’m sitting on the express train, playing my iPod (to mark the occasion I made a randomised playlist of all the Garbage, Angelfish and Mackenzie songs that I love, “In The Snow”, “Samson and Delilah” and a few Shirley guest odds and ends…) full blast and texting friends and it’s about half-way to Edinburgh. By this point it must’ve been about just after 10am, and my phone vibrates. I’d sent over my number to an online friend, Anna, who I chat with on Twitter and Facebook regularly, and her message basically said “Oh my god, I’ve just walked in the room, and Shirley and her dad and Billy are here! Where are you?” After spending the previous hour or two quite happily relaxing on public transport with no real hurry, I am suddenly very anxious to get to Edinburgh, knowing I’m at least 25 minutes away still.
  
  I arrive in Edinburgh Waverley Station at about a quarter to eleven, rush up the steps to Princes St and try and work out where in the hell this exhibition is being held, trying to remember the rather simple map provided on the website. No need. There’s a MASSIVE picture of Shirley outside the building. I walk up to the building, and up the steps and my legs and hands begin to shake out of control. I walk through the reception into the main lobby area, where there must be about 20 journalists, another 20 other people, cameras flashing, boom mikes, you name it. I see Shirley being interviewed at the far side of the room (and again, I hear her laugh before I see her ) and see Anna standing nervously about ten feet away. I’ve never met Anna before today, and knew what she looked like from her Facebook, and as far as introductions go it was probably the simplest one I’ve ever had in my life… “Hey!” She’s been her 30 minutes by now. I’m still amazed Shirley’s still kicking about and that I haven’t missed her!
  
  Shirley kept being led around the room, getting pictures taken, and being interviewed on camera etc etc etc, so Anna and I moved around the rim of the exhibition trying to keep aware of where Shirley was and not look like the obvious hardcore fan gatecrashers that we were!
  
  We had a look at some of the display materials, and then I had a look at who else was in the room. I quickly spot Lindy-Jayne, Shirley’s older sister, who looks like Shirley with her natural red hair, and
