The Damned are a punk and gothic rock band formed in 1976.
They were the first British punk band to release a single (New Rose), put out an album (Damned Damned Damned), and tour the USA. The Damned are generally regarded as one of the founders of gothic rock, and their earlier music (roughly 1979 to 1984) was an influence on the hardcore punk sound of the United States. They have incorporated many different styles into their music and image, most notably from garage rock, psychedelic rock, the theatrical rock of Screaming Lord Sutch and The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, and the New Romantic genre.
The Damned have dissolved and reformed many times, with singer Dave Vanian as the sole constant member. However, the lineups have always included either guitarist Captain Sensible or drummer Rat Scabies (or both).

Pinch talks about work towards a new Damned album [[finally! w00t!]]
We will be working on a bunch of new stuff while we are together on this tour (and believe me, we have an enormous array of new stuff from every member!!!)
I know a lot of you are as desperate for new product, as we are to put some out, but there are many and varied reasons why virtually nothing has seen the light of day for a LONG time.
The whole industry is changing daily, and you only have to realize that CD sales globally are down 17% in the first quarter of 2007, (compared to downloads overtaking them by 100 million!) and you can see why we have had to rethink our whole strategy for releases.
The good news is that this puts the power back in the hands of the bands, in that we can enjoy unlimited control over what we release, and how it gets sold.
We have a plan in place that we are working towards, and I can only say that we are all blown away with the loyalty you lot have shown over the last few years.
It's not like we've been hiding under a rock with the amount of shows we do every year, and obviously this has slowed our progress, but when we have what we think is the right blend of songs for a truly memorable Damned release, you will be the first to know.
In the meantime, I can promise that we'll be going balls out, with a spectacular video show and a ramped up setlist for all our summer dates. It will be a spectacle, believe me.
Anyone that has the 100 Club CD, knows already that the band is firing on all cylinders, and we are all excited to be spending the summer together and raring to get back at it.

wot a gig last nite at the ironworks
I saw them last night in Edinburgh was the best gig ever!
Captain Sensible locked Monty out of the venue half an hour before the gig started. and they got the alarm back on at the end to sing 20th Century Boy by T-rex.

but in two days time there playing a thing called strummer camp. its in aid of Joe strummer ( thus the title).
there’s no profits really made for it so its pretty cheap . Includes camping I think . Its at Manchester rugby ground.
