So yet another year is upon us.

2008 was really a very mixed bag for me, and following on from 2007 which was generally all round awesome, I can't help but feel a bit disappointed.

It had some great times: The Hulk Hogan Tartan Army visited Bulgaria and Macedonia, which was a great experience despite the result and the way we were treated by the Macedonian FA and Police. My Birthday weekend/Zombie night was pretty much a complete blur, and probably the most fun birthday i can remember bits of! I had a nice wee holiday in Rhodes as well.

A lot of old mates who'd dropped off the radar or been studying away seem to have moved back to Glasgow or just generally re-appeared, it's been great to see them all again. Ross and Christine became the first of my peers to tie the knot, their wedding was undoubtedly another highlight. On top of this in December my wee brother finally bit the bullet and proposed to Lorne on their seven year anniversary. I dunno whether I'm more excited about that wedding or the Stag Do I get to help organize! They're currently in France for around 6 months working a Ski season. It's really the first time I've had any kind of extended forced absence from one of my brothers and I'm not enjoying it a bit. Fingers crossed I'll be able to visit them in the next couple of months.
This is also really the first time I've had some significant savings which I haven't then instantly blown on a massive telly or something silly, I must finally be growing up.

2008's not been all sweetness and light though, the last couple of months in particular I've just been feeling a bit down, although there's no single event or issue I can lay this at the door of. The last couple of months have seen a succession of dramas from various sources which in general have done nothing but worsen my malaise.

I've made some good new mates this last year, in particular Lewis and Mick, who're about as spot on as you can expect from men you meet on the internet (not like that!). I'm also glad I met Katie, I think we became friends somewhat unexpectedly, but she's been pretty supportive to me and is one of about 3 folk I'll happily tell pretty much anything to. In return I've helped her forge a new career which will hopefully get her to LA! Of course I've also met a few folk I wish I'd never crossed paths with, but then I guess hindsight's always 20/20...
Last year, due partly to my generally feeling a bit bummed and a succession of niggling injuries caused by folk trying to kill me at football I've not really been keeping up my running to nearly the standard I did in 2007. perhaps this in turn has exacerbated my feelings of malcontent.

Anyways, I've set myself a few goals for 2009:

Make more of an effort to keep in touch with pals near and far and track down a few who seem to have gone MIA in the past few months. Are you still alive Joe?

After Dave's birthday party on Sunday I'm gonna try to limit my drinking to around once a month, get back running again and hopefully do at least one half marathon (or at very worst 10k) for charity this year

Don't take a lot of the shit I hear being bandied about about me personally, if that's the best thing folk have to do with their time, then fuck them.

On a related note, I'm gonna start looking out for number one a wee bit more and stop going out of my way so much for folk who show no appreciation for it.

I'm gonna take myself on at least one kick ass holiday, seeing as I've got the money this year and could really do with seeing a bit of the world outside of the usual holiday destinations.

And finally make a bit of an effort to find myself a nice girlfriend rather than waiting for the fish to jump into the boat (proverbially speaking!). Seeing all my mates (with the exception of Tosh) starting to settle down makes me realise I'm not getting any younger and to quote from Road Trip "The window of opportunity to drink and do drugs and take advantage of young girls is gett
