- Greetings
If you fancy getting involved with us or even if you are just curious, just come along to our meetings every Tuesday night. The future of Fine Gael depends on you. Enda may be the frontman, but the real heroes of the party are its devoted followers through the thick and thin of politics!
Come along and tell a friend. We'll be heading to Cissie Youngs afterwards to moisten the whistle!

- Several FG representitives now in Oireachtas Éireann owe their first political experience to their time in UCC YFG. Justice spokesperson Jim O' Keefe TD, Former Lord Mayor Deirdre Clune TD, Tom Hayes TD and Senator Jerry Buttimer are some names that were involved in the past. UCC YFG is the most successful youth branch of any political party in Ireland, breeding a fire in the belly that has taken reems of people to high political office nationally. Long may it continue!

Irish Officer: Richie Ford.
1st year Reps: Keith Winters. - About us!
- Largest political party in UCC and the oldest faithful branch of any Fine Gael youth wing, local folktales have it that the young blues were out in strength in turbulent times of the 1930's, and it is said that there were regular faction fights between the students and locals of the blue and green variety.
Today, things are much less volatile. Yet the vibrant rivalry is still there. UCC YFG competes annually for the hearts and minds of the student body. We contest elections both within YFG and at SU level. We have a good group all round.
We have regular meetings in UCC, where we are very much an active political society. The rest don't quite cut it! Owing to our long standing friendship with Cissie Youngs, you can expect nights of craic, reems of new acquaintances, and the occasional social faux pas.

Youth Unemployment almost DOUBLES under FF in just 1 year
Young Fine Gael (YFG) have today warned that mass emigration could again become a reality for our young people, in light of the recent CSO Live Register figures for December, released last week.
YFG President Barry Walsh has said: "The latest CSO figures reveal that the number of young people under the age of 25 on the Dole has almost doubled in the space of a year, increasing from 33,000 to 62,000 during 2008 – a rise of 87%. These figures are terrifying. However, the Government does not even seem to know that there is a problem.
"It is now also case that young men are twice as likely to be out of work as young women, a fact which is reflective of the collapse in employment in the construction sector. Their problems are made worse by the fact that there are now tens of thousands of young men who do not have the skills to get a well paid job in another sector of the economy. Even highly skilled and highly educated graduates from our third level institutions face the worst employment prospects in 15 years.
"The Government really needs to get a handle on this serious crisis. We simply cannot afford to have so many young people out of work, without risking the spectre of mass emigration once again. In the face of this, the Taoiseach has disappeared from public view, and the Tánaiste is utterly clueless, as her incompetent handling of the Dell pullout showed.

FG Approach to Budget
The Fine Gael approach to this year’s budget is set out in full at www.finegael.ie in our Pre-Budget Document “Recovery Through Reform – A Budget Perspective”.
The approach by Fine Gael can be summarised as follows:
1. Don’t make more mistakes that make things even worse.
2. Do not increase taxes – that will undermine our scope to recover.
3. Do not cut investment in infrastructure – that too will undermine our recovery prospects.
4. For the economy, get back to the basics that made the economy strong in the first place – low prices, efficient government, growing exports and strategic investment in education and infrastructure.
5. On the finances we propose a “Tough but Fair” set of proposals for the budget that would help reduce the amount of money we are borrowing just to get by, these include:
A freeze in public sector pay and increments for a 12 month period on those earning €50k or more.
Freezing day to day spending in 2009 at 2008 levels.
€1.5bn fee for banks using Government guarantee scheme.
Switch off the life support machine on Fianna Fail’s Decentralisation programme.
Introduce a windfall carbon tax on energy generators that received carbon allowances for free that they now pass on as a charge to consumers. That would raise €300m per year.
Reducing tax relief on pensions contributions for the highest earners – reducing the maximum contribution that can receive tax relief from €250k to €125k.
Eliminate or merge more than 30 Quangos and their €50m annual budget.
Incentivise R&D and upskilling and re-training programmes.
Double the support for debt distressed home owners.
Increasing by 50% the winter fuel allowance and
extending the back to education allowance for those earning less than €12p.h.
The type of proposals set out above involves some tough decisions and hard work but they would also serve to protect front line services and allow our economy to recover more quickly. Adopting the Fine Gael approach would have meant, for instance, that OAPs could have kept their medical cards without the trauma of the week after the Budget and small schoolchildren wouldn’t have seen their class sizes increase.
