- Neil Lennon (born June 25, 1971 in Lurgan, County Armagh) is a Northern Irish professional footballer, who currently plays for Celtic F.C. in the Scottish Premier League, and is now the club captain.
After joining Manchester City as trainee in 1989, Lennon has played for Crewe and Leicester City, before moving to Celtic, in 2000. For Northern Ireland, Lennon has been capped 40 times, scoring two goals. He has previously captained the squad.
Lennon decided to retire from international football in August 2002 upon receiving a death threat before a Northern Ireland match against Cyprus. The threats came after his alleged claim that he wanted to play for a United Ireland team.[1] The threat was made by the Loyalist Volunteer Force, although the organisation later disputed this. The death threat was met with widespread disgust from both sections of the community in Northern Ireland.
As creater of the Neil Lennon fan club i am of course delited to see such interest on the page.
Though i would like to ask our members on the site not to take turn this page into a bigot page, anyone who knows Neil Lennon will know that although he was a catholic boy brought up in the troubles, and despite the abuse he got from a small faction of the Northern Ireland fans. Neil has not ever shown himself to be a member of the 'IRA' and i would like that to be dropped.
He is great friends with the other 'side' in northern ireland, his best mate throughout his life was Noel Baillie who also went onto to CAPTAIN Glasgow Rangers, and play for Linfield.
This band was made to show Neil Lennon for the hero for glasgow celtic he is, and the great talented footballer he is.
