Vampire are sensual creatures who kills and feeds to survive, much like any being in nature. Though they don't need to kill every time they feed to get enough blood to survive
All life needs blood to survive, weither cold blooded or warm blooded everything needs it to survive. Vampires don't produce blood on their own so they need to get it from somewhere else.
