Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is a U.S.-based mixed martial arts (MMA) organization, currently recognized as the largest MMA promotion in the world.[2] The UFC is owned and operated by Zuffa, LLC, headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada. The UFC focuses on the heavier weight classes in MMA, to where as its sister promotion, the WEC, focuses on the lighter weights.

The UFC began as a single-event tournament to find the world's best fighters irrespective of their style, and was based upon Brazilian vale tudo fighting. Although there were a limited number of rules, promoters marketed fighting in the UFC as no holds barred, and contests were often violent and brutal. Early UFC fights were less sport than spectacle, which led to accusations of brutality and "human cock fighting" by Senator John McCain and others.[3] Political pressures eventually led the UFC into the underground, as pay-per-view providers nixed UFC programming, nearly extinguishing the UFC's public visibility.

As political pressure mounted, the UFC reformed itself, slowly embracing stricter rules, becoming sanctioned by state athletic commissions, and marketing itself as a legitimate sporting event. Dropping the no holds barred label and carrying the banner of mixed martial arts, the UFC has emerged from its political isolation to become more socially acceptable, regaining its position in pay-per-view television.

With a cable television deal and expansion into Canada, Europe and new markets within the United States, the UFC as of 2009[update] has experienced a remarkable surge in popularity, along with greater mainstream media coverage. UFC programming can now be seen on Spike in the United States and Canada, as well as in 34 other countries worldwide.

      Hard-hitting (and crowd-pleasing) welterweights, Marcus Davis and Phil Baroni, have verbally agreed to throw leather at UFC 111 from the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on March 27, 2010.

      The promotion has made no official announcements about the 170-pound match up or the actual pay-per-view (PPV) event at this time; however, that's expected to change very soon.

      More on this breaking news in a bit.

      UFC 111 is expected to feature a 170-pound title defense by promotion superstar Georges St. Pierre as "Rush" answers the call of British striker Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy. Heavyweights Frank Mir and Shane Carwin are also expected to collide in an interim title match while Brock Lesnar recovers from recent surgery.

It's all about dominating ever position, and if you get in a bad position, it's about working your way out of it. Mir's skill set as an all-around fighter...       Shane Carwin's trainer, Trevor Whitman, recently spoke to Sherdog.com about the potential UFC heavyweight interim championship match up between Carwin and Frank Mir. The fight, although not yet official, is slated to take place at UFC 111 in N.J. on March 27, 2010.

      Whitman said that they decided to take the Mir fight because Carwin had not fought since March 2009 and were tired of waiting. Carwin's last fight took place at UFC 96 where he KO'ed Gabriel Gonzaga. Mir, however, has fought three times in the past 12 months, coming out with a 2-1 record. In Dec. 2008, at UFC 98, Mir TKO'ed Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, but lost his next fight to Brock Lesnar at UFC 100 in July 2009. Just over a week ago, Mir took on Cheick Kongo at UFC 107, where he dominated his French opponent on their feet and on the ground, winning by submission.

      While Lesnar is still recovering from his injuries and illnesses, UFC President Dana White has stated that he will decide on the heavyweight title picture at the beginning of February. White does not want to strip Lesnar of his belt, and is waiting on more news of the current champion's health before making a decision

      stuart u say oh thiago isn't crap because he has only one loss to lyoto, well how is rashad shit when his only loss is to lyoto aswelll? i dont think rashads a better all rounded fighter but i do belive he will be the better fighter on te night imo, And i belive jones evans and lil nog have wat it takes to beat machida, evans is a realquick learner and i think he will go in again with a smart stratergy that he will stick to, he is good at that. Jones will not yet e able to beat machida or shogunor evans, but i belive give him some time and improve his hands a bit and he will be dominating soon, and lil nog is an animal lol patint and i belive that he could fight machida any time soon and still beat him, Btw are lil nog and lyoto friends like anderson and lyoto are, because anderson is good friends with the noguieras so i wonder f they have all trained together and like each other?

      No fight announced for Frankie Edgar yet. I think he should either fight the winner of Maynard v Diaz, or else jump right into the deep end & take on Florian or Sanchez, but hopefully Florian.

      Hazelett was due to fight Karo Parisian at UFC 106 in November but the fight was cancelled the day before the weigh-in (too late to find a replacement) due to Karo's addiction to pain killers.
      So he's been given Paul Daley at UFC 108 in 2 weeks instead. I'm very much looking forward to thiat bad boy.

      Yeah McLovin vs The Barncat was his last fight. Hazlett deserved his win but i was really sorry to see McCrory get the bullet, i'm a big fan of his.

      I know this is late but Strikeforce & WEC 45 were pretty awesome. Strikeforce was a fantastic card from top to bottom but they definately need to increase their production values if they wanna take on the UFC.
      We also need more entrances!
