Wigtown 2009...
Teams: 21
Team Members:270
Survivors: 27
Funds Banked: £45,000!
WELL DONE!
In 2008, you were part of something amazing:-
91 Relays across the UK
1,700 Teams
30,000 Candle Bags dedicated
TOGETHER raising £2.6million
Relay For Life 2009 in D&G is sadly over but we'd love you to join us for another 24 hours of fun, friendship & fundraising in Dumfries in 2010. In 2008 and 2009 the teams exceeded all expectations & pulled out all the stops to raise more than £92,000 collectively for Cancer Research UK. In 2010 we're looking to get even more people involved and spread our wings to Dumfries, bringing more teams, survivors, volunteers, & spectators together to celebrate survival, remember those we have lost & learn more about the disease & what we can all do to 'reduce the risk'. But don't worry - we'll be back in Wigtown in 2011 so start planning now!

Adrian's Second BAFTA! Well done from the Relay For Life Team
OAP weightlifter's movie delight
The film about Mr McFadyen has taken a Scottish Bafta
The triumph of a film about a 73-year-old weightlifting champion from Stranraer at the Scottish Baftas has been hailed as "fantastic news".
Ma Bar was directed and produced by Wigtownshire filmmaker Adrian McDowall along with Finlay Pretsell.
It features the exploits of bench pressing pensioner Bill McFadyen and won the short film category.
Mr McDowall said he had been trying to capture a story which would both "inspire and amaze".
The film was one of three commissioned by Dumfries and Galloway Council to celebrate the opening of the DG One leisure centre in Dumfries.
They were designed to show the dedication, talent and commitment of local sporting figures.
'Inspiring individual'
Councillor David McKie said: "This is fantastic news for Adrian, Finlay and Bill, but also for the council.
"We have some truly talented and amazing people in our region and it's great when our support of their talent is vindicated by national approval like this.
"Well done to them all."
Mr McDowall said he was pleased to see the film recognised.
"I am thoroughly delighted with the award," he said.
"We were trying to create something that would inspire and amaze and that is reflected in Bill McFadyen - a truly inspiring individual."

Hi all, I just want to say a BIG hello and thank you from Cancer Rseearch UK for starting to organise next years Wigtown Relay For Life! We know that in 2008 you raised the most unbelievable amount and that it can't be expected again, but I know that you will all try hard to fund our work. Remember that without your help and support this vital research simply couldn't happen.
Last year we spent an astonishing £41Million on research into breast cancer alone and we are making progress all the time but we need to fund a LOT of research to continue this progress. Every day 100 women in Britain are diagnosed with breast cancer.
Please visit: www.cancerresearchuk.org/breastcancer
When our Chief Executive Harpal Kumar was at Glasgow University recently to give a talk on scientific progress the Wigtown Relay For Life was mentioned by him as one of the highlights of the year! THANK YOU ALL! Rowan
