      Nintendo’s new system, Wii, will feature a controller designed to be used with either one hand or two -- a first in the video game industry. When picked up and pointed at the screen, the controller gives a lightning-quick element of interaction, sensing motion, depth, positioning and targeting dictated by movement of the controller itself.

      Using the Wii’s unique ‘Channel System’ users will be able to access the console’s Wii Shop Channel to download Virtual Console games. Once selected these games will be saved to your Wii’s internal flash memory and added to the console’s Channel menu allowing them to be easily accessed at any time

      Included with every Wii console is one wireless Wii Remote, one Nunchuk Controller, and the groundbreaking collection of five different Wii Sports games on one disk which anyone can play using simple physical movements.

      Nintendo today set a new direction for the video games industry by using state of the art technology not just for enhancing graphics and processing power but to introduce new people to the world of video games by creating brand new entertainment that is fresh and accessible to everyone.


      Nintendo believe that encouraging users to pick up the controller to access the internet quickly, check the news or see tomorrows weather is one way of ensuring that everyone in the household can use, interact and ultimately engage with Wii. And once users have picked up the controller to perform these basic functions, it’s a small step to get involved in some more fun game play action.

      The Nunchuck Controller:
      Nintendo breaks with more than 20 years of video game history by abandoning the traditional controller held with two hands and introducing an all-new freehand-style unit held with one hand.

      The intuitive, pioneering interface allows players to run, jump, spin, slide, shoot, steer, accelerate, bank, dive, kick, throw and score in a way never experienced in the history of gaming.

      “The feeling is so natural and real, as soon as players use the controller, their minds will spin with the possibilities of how this will change gaming as we know it today,” explains Satoru Iwata, Nintendo president. “This is an extremely exciting innovation – one that will thrill current players and entice new ones.”

      When picked up and pointed at the screen, the Nunchuk controller gives a lightning-quick element of interaction, sensing motion, depth, positioning and targeting dictated by movement of the controller itself.

      The controller also allows for a variety of expansions, including a “nunchuk” style analog unit offering the enhanced game-play control hard-core gamers demand.

      The Wii console will be launching across Europe on 8th December at the estimated retail price of around €249 (£179 in the UK). Included with every Wii console is one wireless Wii Remote, a Nunchuk Controller, Wii Sports game, Stereo AV Cable and the sensor bar for Wii’s unique control system.

      Wii first party games will retail at the estimated retail price of between 49 Euros and 59 Euros (£34 to £39 in the UK).

      Additional controllers will also be available from launch at the estimated retail prices of: Wii Remote - 39 Euros (£29 in UK), Nunchuk Controller – 19 Euros (£14 in UK) and the Classic Controller – 19 Euros (£14 in UK) :D
