Since May 2008 Artificial Flight has proved an aeronautical force to be reckoned with. Following the summer release of their debut e.p. Modest War Factor the band has gone from strength to strength, catching the attention of Hotpress & music journalists around the country. The quintet has also gained a number of high profile support slots including shows alongside Fighting With Wire, The Kinetiks & Dave Browne.
While most bands gig first & record later, the lads & lady from Artificial Flight have gone for a successful paradoxical approach. The summer months of 2008 were spent perfecting live shows, selling out venues & spreading their progressive alternative sounds farther afield. The band, for now, has turned its attention to writing new material. Lucikly, being holed up in a chilly garage over the sombre winter period has led to a fresh catalogue of material, which will be showcased over the coming months.

It's been some time since we blogged, due to the busy nature of the beginning of 2009. Since scooping 3G Band of The Year, much has happened. Our piano player finally returned from her studies in Scotland, our vocalist tried his damndest to fall from a balcony and our chief guitarist had an unbelievable run of good luck, a Midas touch some might say.
With the summer now upon us, we have a number of upcoming gigs, the most immediate of which is this Friday (June 19th) in McHugh's Venue, Drogheda. Support on the night comes from After The Explosions, a band with roots deeply set in the music of Mogwai, Pearl Jam and Muse. Get there early to catch these guys in action!
Now if that wasn't enough for one pair of ears and eyes, we're back in Whelan's on Sunday June 21st, this time for a headline show upstairs. Admission is €8 and support on the night includes a couple of Dublin's finest - The Chapman Society and The Looks.
A mini tour wouldn't be the same without a date in the Spiritstore - Friday June 26th. Admission on the night is a tenner...doors open early. Dundalk/Dublin based duo Norabelle will be opening for us on the night - their recent EP release has been critically acclaimed by Hotpress magazine...miss them at your peril!!! Also playing on the night is Neon Flea Circus - these four Corkonians have been making waves in their native city and will be spreading their funk-filled music to Dundalk pastures on the 26th. To add to the line-up, DJ Slint will be on hand during the night, spinning a track or two from the sound-desk....a musical extravaganza some might say.
Aside from that, we have a surprise or two up our sleeve for the coming weeks. But our lips are firmly sealed and you'll all just have to wait...
Until next time,

It's time to admit the truth...we've been keeping you locked within a deep dark closet for some time now. Last week we got a snippet of wonderful news but our lips were tightly sealed (almost to the point of bursting!!). At long last we're pleased to be able to share our news with you today...
We, Artificial Flight, have been named as "band of the year 2008" at the inaugural 3G mobile Christmas awards in association with entertainment.ie.
As many of you already know, we were in the running for this accolade before Christmas. Voting was open to fans through the entertainment.ie website for some weeks in December and, as fate would have it, we came out on top.
A massive and most sincere thank you to everyone who took the time to vote for us - we are hugely appreciative of this mass effort. Footage of our acceptance speech is available from http://entertainment.ie/pages/3g-chr... and you can check out some photos from the event. Now all we need to do is figure out where to hang the certificate!
In other news, Gary J and Sean apeared on Balcony TV two weeks ago - their performance is available from http://youtube.com/watch?v=3Ms0xszq9.... The "recital" was aired on RTE 2XM digital radio earlier this week.
Until next time, please continue to observe the fasten seatbelt sign.
