Crash! Bang! Wallop!..... What a gig!
I think we were all anticipating a great show with two of the UK’s finest bands, and boy they did not disappoint……
This gig was not only exclusive in its intimate venue, but in the fact that not one gig goer needed a ticket! The ticketless gig was run by Nokia Ticket Rush who sent the entry barcode to all gig attendees once they had registered with the service. Queues were quick and fast outside the venue as people streamed in to the sound of The Enemy who warmed up a very cosy room at the union with their indie Oasis-like tracks. Soon to get hot, the crowd lapped up the threesome who are clearly going somewhere, in preparation for the main event.
Without the ubiquitous swagger that one expects from the cult groups of today, frontmen Tom Meighan and Sergio Pizzorno strolled onto the stage like they were strolling into their sitting room. They met with a room crammed with an excited crowd. The band certainly lived up to the reputation as one of the best live acts around today.
The psychedelic electricity, which one hears as coming from every corner of these guys, really came to a head when new drummer Ian Matthews gave one almighty solo - what a moment! Needless to say the crowd went wild with surfers all over the mosh pit and clothes being strewn in every direction.
It really felt surreal to be stood at the front of the first fully ticketless gig with Tom Meighan about 2 metres in front of me. Awesome moment!
To some up it, it was a wicked gig, great bands, great venue, great atmosphere. Let's see what gig my next SMS ticket alert brings me!
