- The University College Cork Green Party Society was established in 1993 with the purpose of informing students and the public at large that Green Party economics puts quality of life first.
Since then the society has expanded and become a branch of the Young Greens/Óige Ghlas of Ireland http://www.younggreens.ie in 2002.
we have weekly meetings, invite speakers on topics which interest the students of UCC, Attend National Young Green and Green Party Events, partake in international youth seminars with other youth groups across the world.
we have also campaigned on issues such as the Kyoto agreement, same sex Marriage, The destruction of the student travel card, Nuclear Power not being the answer to our energy problems, Fair trade etc.
So if it's just general politics that you're into or a staunch Green Party Supporter then the UCC Greens will definitely challenge your political beliefs.

we need help publicising the AGM and the society so if you are willing
to help for an hour. please email us back.
2.WEEKLY/FORTNIGHTLY MEETINGS
traditionally we have had weekly or fortnightly meetings. these
usually consist of a discussion or debate on current events or issues
of interest to our members followed by a social in the old bar to
discuss these issues in a more informal and relaxed atmosphere.
everyone is always welcome to attend. the meetings are always
informative and definitely fun and the best way to learn about green
party politics. the dates for these will be announced at the EGM
3. MINISTERIAL VISITS
It is planned that John Gormley and Eamon Ryan will visit UCC during
this term while visiting local election candidates.
John is booked for February the 20th. we are considering inviting him
for a lunchtime open forum Q&A and photo opp for societies and
students of UCC to ask him questions or direct campaigns e.g. student
housing, envirosoc extending a campaign to a national level or the
UCCLGBT blood ban / equal marriage campaign for the public and a later
Q&A. I'm sure he'd like to hear from all of you. it is also planned
that he will meet and greet with UCC Green party members and Green
party members in a closed invitation only event that night.
Eamon will probably visit in April but there is talk of a large Green
energy festival to be held during the month off. (but it is only talk
so far)
4. GREEN PARTY NATIONAL CONVENTION
6-8 March 2009
Whites Hotel, Abbey Street, Wexford
we usually have a good representation at these events and can prove to
be the best young greens event of the year as it is a national
political party in action. usually they have extremely engaging
keynote speakers, discussion groups, workshops, leader's address and
motions with great social at nightime.
this year the UCC greens are entitled to one motion, as are all young
green groups and Green Party Dail constituency groups this will be
discussed and debated on at the meeting following the AGM.
to be eligible to apply for partial funding from the societies guild
you must have turned up to at least two meetings this year and also
apply with definite interest two weeks in advance. but this will all
be sorted out in due time.

Hi UCC Greens watsup. A quick reminder about the *mass public meeting* on the campaign tackle Ireland's contribution to climate change.
On Saturday October 20th at 1.30pm, students and others from all over Ireland will gather in Trinity College for a public gathering, about action to tackle Ireland's greenhouse gas emissions.
Basically we're getting together students and others from all over the country who care about this issue for a historic event -Ireland's first mass gethering of students on what is probably the most important issue in the world. We'll launch a nation-wide campaign for action on this issue, and we are supported by groups like Friends of the Earth and others.
This campaign is already making progress - last week our demands were debated in Seanad Eireann. But we need to build a massive movement movement to keep on the pressure.
Anyway, I hope to see you all there, it will be cool. Brings your friends! For more info email environment@usi.ie.
Thanks
