Puffs of smoke rose into the chilly air as she jogged; grimacing , she dodged a couple of older university students and looked at her watch.

It read 4:59 pm

‘Oh shoot!’ she thought frantically ‘ I’m going to miss my bus! No, no, NO! ‘

She strained her already aching legs to go faster, faster; if she missed the bus the next one wouldn’t come until 20 minutes after- enough time for her sister to sharpen the knife with which to kill her for her tardiness.

She closed her stinging eyes and let a huge breath of air out, feeling as if someone was squeezing her neck. As she opened them, she saw the bus stop no more than a few feet in front of her- and the green bus speeding away.

Yet as disappointment washed over her she caught an object in her line of vision- swerve-!

Bam.

She collided heavily with something metallic and sprawled to the ground. A familiar , metallic rustling sound echoed as the other person fought for control over its bike, finally planting a feet firmly on the pavement. It took her a couple of seconds to notice the blur above her was a face, and another couple of seconds to see the open hand floating above her.

She blinked hard, and again. And still, the face nor the hand would disappear.
Slightly dazzed, she took the person’s hand: it hauled up her feet gently and firmly , as if she was made of cotton. She adjusted her glasses, ready to sprout a torrent of flushed apologies, when she caught sight of the guy’s face.

Her parted lips stilled.

Big, bottle-green eyes peered at her curiously.

Pragita gulped.

Several kilometres away , zabna browsed diligently through the manga section, unaware of the other people mingling quietly in the public library. Her index finger hovered absent mindedly over each title for no more than a fraction of a second, her maroon eyes racking the titles.

Until now only three jumped out at her, and she didn’t know whether she’ll have more luck any time soon. She pouted.

‘ Souka da ne... damn there’s no-‘

A brilliant smile radiated her face momentarily.

‘ This week they said they would have the new volume of Yu-gi-oh!’

She scrambled to her feet , having been previously sitting Indian style , and didn’t notice the shadow over her.

She rose and felt her head collide with something more solid than air , softer than wood. But it still hurt like hell.

‘bakayaro!’ she whispered furiously under her breath, straightening from under the person’s chest. ‘ Some people cannot- oh... was it my fault?’ She realized she was the one who had sprung like a rocket without any warning.

Feeling guilt rush through her , she looked up at the person’s face - and her sheepish smile froze.

A perfect, dark eyebrow shot up.

Zabna felt saliva turn to sawdust in her mouth.

The guy looked at her coolly , his azure eyes intensifying the effect. ‘ Sorry’ he muttered , moving to stand next to her.

Zabna flushed to the empty space before her. ‘ oh kami-sama, I can not believe this!’ she turned towards the guy, who was bending down and looking at cowboy beep.

She turned back hastily and tried to concentrate in finding the manga that had put her in so much trouble. But she knew, hearing the guy’s humming, that she was not going to have luck seeing her own fingers in front of her, never mind find a manga volume wedged between a hundred others.

Zabna bit her lip. She squirmed.

The guy straightened.

She fidgeted.

The guy sighed.

She bit her lip.

When the guy had straightened, some of his onyx bangs had fallen over his eyes. Perhaps due to this Zabna did not realise she was being observed.
