- Mark "Bill" Bailey was born in Bath in 1964. He spent most of his time listening to Monty Python, and rehearsing with his band, the "Famous Five". However, it wasn't until he accidentally wandered into a John Hegley gig that he decided to become a stand-up comedian. Bill created his own style, where he tied together his music and post-modern gags with the whimsical rambling he is known for.
He has since appeared in numerous TV shows and films, such as Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Black Books, Is It Bill Bailey?, Hitch-hikers Guide To The Galaxy, Hot Fuzz, Saving Grace and Skins.
Bill Bailey is a talented musician. His shows feature music such as jazz, rock and classical, usually for comedic value. His favourite instruments include the keyboard, guitar, theremin, kazoo and bongos. He is also part of punk band called "Beergut 100". Bill and 3 other performers are also a Kraftwerk tribute band called Augenblick.

Bill to perform at the Brighton Dome
Bill Bailey's Remarkable Guide to the Orchestra
We're pleased to announce that Bill will be performing his Remarkable Guide to the Orchestra show at the Brighton Dome on the 4th and 8th October 2008 as part of the Magners Paramount Comedy Festival.
Bill is let loose on the brilliantly versatile BBC Concert Orchestra, and has collaborated with one of the country's most celebrated composers and arrangers, Anne Dudley.
Find out about cockney trombones, bassoon secrets, tv and film themes, and hear brand new versions of some of Bill's songs plus loads more in this irreverent guide to the orchestra, which The Times described as 'blissfully funny' and Stephen Fry called ' wonderfully enjoyable... like driving a Rolls Royce off-road'.
Tickets are available now from the Brighton Dome website at:
www.brightondome.org
Alternatively, tickets can be purchased from the box office on 01273 709 709.
Tickets cost £30 each and there is a £1.75 booking fee for each order.
We look forward to seeing you there.

July 2008 Newsletter
Bill Bailey.co.uk
Hopefully the worst of the spring weather is now behind us, and no doubt some of you are already hanging up your overcoats and dusting off your barbecues in fervent anticipation. Equally as excited are some of Bill's jokes. After several months of being bounced around the walls of gargantuan arenas they can now emerge blinking and confused into the sunshine, when Bill performs them at several outdoor gigs around the country.
Live Appearances
STOP PRESS - RIVERSIDE STUDIOS, HAMMERSMITH, LONDON
If you happen to be in West London on the evening of Tuesday 1st or Thursday 3rd July, Bill will be warming up at 8 pm in the Riverside Studios for his forthcoming New Zealand & Australian Tour. It's a small venue so tickets are scarce, but if you happen to be in the West London area, check out www.riversidestudios.co.uk for availability.
Comedy Session - The Eden Project, Cornwall
First up, on the 11th of July, Bill will be venturing into the unknown when he performs the first ever stand up gig amidst the biomes of The Eden Project, the only man-made domes to be even more impressive than Bill's forehead.
"This is the first time I've ever performed a full length show in an outdoor arena and the first comedy gig at Eden. If you haven't been before, it's an amazing place, and the ticket gets you into the biomes as well. Check out the massive sculptures..."
Latitute Festival
Then on July 19th Bill is at Latitude Festival, an eclectic mix of music, comedy, theatre, and literature based in Henham Park in Suffolk.
"This was fun to do last year, and close to the seaside so was great having fish and chips on the beach at Southwold. Looking forward to seeing Sigur Ros and Interpol... and the Poetry Arena."
Cannizaro Park Festival
Shortly afterwards, on July 22nd, Bill will be in Wimbledon for the Cannizaro Park Festival.
"I played here once before, many years ago, and it was very civilised as I recall.. kind of Glasto-Lite... some sitting down, some food from stalls, but posher toilets and you can get the tube home."
Big Chill Festival
And on the 2nd of August Bill will be making his first appearance at the Big Chill Festival, a mellowed out mix of ambient and alternative music which takes place at Eastnor Castle in Hertfordshire. Tickets are still available from their website.
Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2008
On the 14th of August, Bill will also be popping up indoors at the Edinburgh Playhouse, the inside of which he knows particularly well.
"Played this back in 1999, and experimented then with playing live to film clips - not that long ago, but even then the technology was a world away. Had to use huge great U-matic video players, and the cueing was literally 'press play now!". There were three blokes who had to wheel the whole thing on an enormous trolley, it's now one bloke with a laptop. It's an impressive stage - largest proscenium stage in Europe apparently - and was originally a cinema, hence my desire to use the film clips. It's always a bit special performing at the Edinburgh Festival... this is the last Tinselworm gig I'll be doing in the UK for a while, so hope to make it a good 'un."
Tinselworm Tour - Australia/New Zealand
After this Bill will be heading southwards for his first tour of Australia and New Zealand in three years, playing some familiar venues, and a few new ones. For more information and tickets, visit the Tour Page. Bill was recently interviewed about the tour in the New Zealand newspaper Sunday Star Times.
To keep up to date on forthcoming appearances, please visit the Tour Page on the Bill Bailey website.
Other News
If you missed his recent appearance on Desert Island Discs there is a news story on it at Chortle.co.uk.
Finally, a heads up that in October Bill will be performing at the Royal Albert Hall with Bill Bailey's Remarkable Guide to the Orchestra1 Comment 510 days
