My top 5 movies 2007

So i'l start by saying I hated Into the Wild, apart from the old guy towards the end it was up its own arse, and I really hated the Eddie Vedder soundtrack, i've taken a lot of shit for not liking that film, anyway, I watched more movies this year than ever before and was disappointed by maybe 60% of them. Theres just so many shit movies out and the biggest problem with them is they are too long. I love a good 3hr De Niro movie or whatever but even some movies at 90mins should have been shorter, they dont know when to end.

5 Michael Clayton

Just a damn good thriller, no huge action pieces and very well paced, plus I liked the whole "seeing a scene youve already seen from a different point of view later in the film". This sort of thing is being done to death in movies today but it was pulled off very well here.

4 Superbad

McLovin, simple. The 2 funniest things in a movie this year were McLovin and Spider Pig, but after McLovin Superbad was a great film, after Spider Pig The Simpsons was....shit.

3 The Darjeeling Limited

The opening scene alone makes this one of my favourite films. I love those slow motion shots sets to the 2 Kinks songs. The scenes on the train with the cough medicine and Owen Wilson bossing the 2 younger brothers around are the best of the film. Once they get off the train it does dip a bit, but still, when its good, its so good.


2 The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

I like westerns, and there usually arent many of them made these days but this more than made up for that. The opening scene where they rob the train is shot so well, just the light of the train approaching through the trees, and when Robert Ford is asking Frank James to let him into the gang reallys sets Fords character up so well. Good to see Casey Affleck finally in a movie where he isnt just a supporting character.

1 Eagle Vs Shark

One of the few times I went to the cinema and was suprised by a really good film. Any movie worth seeing this ear was hyped, posters, trailers etc and it ruined nearly every one of them. Very few of them were good anyway but the hype means that by the time it comes out you know the best scenes etc, so it was cool to see a movie and know very little about it. The scenes where phone messages are being left are hilarious, also the scene where they break up "im sp complex". The Phoenix Foundation soundtrack was perfect.
