- The Tartan Army refers to the Supporters of the Scotland National Team who regularly attend matches both home and away. There are of course vast numbers of fans who attend the home matches and a hard core of about 1,000 fans who travel to almost all away matches. This number swells to between 5,000 and 20,000 travelling fans when Scotland reach the final stages of any major tournament (e.g. European Championships or the World Cup). Of course the greatest attraction of all comes when we play our neighbours and greatest rivals - England (The Auld Enemy)

Italy celebrate the first of Luca Toni's goals in Bari
Italy striker Luca Toni scored with two headers to sink Scotland in the Euro 2008 qualifying match in Bari.
The towering Toni was left unmarked to power in an early goal from a Massimo Oddo free-kick.
Scotland rallied briefly in the closing stages of the first half but Italy controlled the game for long spells.
After an intensive period of pressure from the World Cup winners, Toni again found the net with ease after slack Scottish play on 70 minutes.
The Scots are now tied at the top of Group B on 12 points with Ukraine and France, while Italy are two points behind.
However, Scotland have played one more game than the other nations.
Scotland looked out of their depth in the opening stages, struggling to retain the ball and committing a number of clumsy fouls.
Italy were enjoying a lot of possession but did not have to work too hard for the opening goal on 12 minutes.
Oddo flighted a straightforward free-kick into the penalty box and Toni left Stephen McManus trailing to power in a header from eight yards.
Full-backs Gianluca Zambrotta and Oddo were causing Scotland problems with their strong running but Scotland did get forward occasionally.
Barry Ferguson broke in behind the home defence but his chipped cross was cut out by Marco Materazzi, while Lee McCulloch forced a save from Gianluigi Buffon with a dipping shot from 25 yards.
The sliding McCulloch was a yard away from a dangerous low cross from Gary Teale and Kenny Miller made a mess of a header from a Gary Naysmith delivery.
The second half was three minutes old when Antonio Di Natale was allowed to charge in on goal but Craig Gordon thrust out a hand to keep out the angled shot.
The same player broke clear again minutes later and the Hearts goalkeeper used an outstretched leg to deny him for a second time.
Gordon smothered a deflected drive from Mauro Camoranesi and Toni glanced a header wide as Italy poured forward in search of a killer second goal.
Toni shot straight at Gordon before the prolific Fiorentina striker grabbed his second of the night.
Substitute Shaun Maloney played a poor pass to Naysmith and the ball was presented to Camoranesi who ran on to flight in a cross for the unchallenged Toni to head in from close range.
Scotland threw on strikers Kris Boyd and Craig Beattie but could not trouble the home defence.
Elsewhere in Group B, Ukraine beat Lithuania 1-0, while Georgia were 3-1 winners over the Faroe Islands.

Tartan Army in Bari
Tartan Army in Bari
The reception given to Tartan Army by the denizens of Bari has been overwhelmingly friendly.
I was speaking to a guy from Stonehaven and he told me he didn't ever want to miss another Scotland trip. I feel the same.
When I stepped off the plane at Bari, having flown from Milan, I thought the pilot must have taken a dizzy spell, lost his bearings and flown us all back to Glasgow.
It was pouring with rain and freezing.
The taxi driver was forced to swerve regularly to avoid flooded areas on the road, although perhaps that's the way they always drive over here!
It was not the weather I was expecting in the south east of Italy on the Adriatic Coast.
But it certainly hasn't dampened the spirits of the Tartan Army.
We have simply taken over this ancient city and the indigenous population are loving it.
I've already been photographed on several occasions by giggling locals and I've shaken hands more than Alex Salmond will do in the forthcoming election campaign.
I feel very proud when I see the Scots chatting and laughing with the Italians.
I hear people back home criticise the Tartan Army, but, if those detractors could see them in action on a tour of duty overseas, they would surely change their minds.
Convivial, relaxed and friendly - they are a credit to Scotland.
Everyone knows we will be giving tremendous vocal support to the team in the San Nicola stadium, as we always do.
We are here for the football and are desperate for Alex McLeish to achieve what no other Scotland manager has done before - win or draw against Italy on their home soil.
Players and fans were met with very Scottish weather in Italy
However, let's not forget they won the World Cup last year and are a team full of superstars.
But we have the players, organisation and team spirit capable of pulling off a positive result in the Euro 2008 qualifier.
I've been very impressed by the hospitality. We have been welcomed with open arms.
The only downer is having to wait until after seven o'clock for the restaurants to open. Never mind, it's worth the wait.
Predictably the cuisine is on par with the beauty of the Italian women.
Certainly the fettuccini and gnocchi dishes are sheer heaven and I look forward to trying as much of the local delights as I can during my brief stay.
At the moment, the bars and cafes are crammed full of men, women and children singing the Corries and the Proclaimers with gusto.
And while I wait patiently for the restaurants to open their doors, I may as well enjoy another cold glass of Peroni.
La Dolce vita indeed.
