Postcard from Berlin 24th September 2008
Berlin is truly one of the most amazing places I have ever been, really love it here, and I have really settled in, although I’m so busy with the business that haven’t seen as much of it as I would have liked by now, or learned much more of the language, but I’m figuring get everything rattled in preparation for the Christmas rush with all the companies and deal with that stuff later, can order beer fluently so we are making good progress with the important stuff.
Every weekend there is so much on, so many free outdoor parties, its just mind blowing, went to an amazing party last Sunday with Adie, Kayleigh and Kate, completely rocking and FREE.. all good, all the photo’s are on my facebook if anyone is interested.
Get the keys to our bar (Hairy Mary’s) hopefully the middle of next month, been a bit time consuming with all the paperwork but have a really good team developing for the bar and it will really be worth the wait once we get started.
Had a few parties in Hairy Mary’s already, and really have fallen in love with the vibe of the place, its really cool. We have discussed all the changes and what we want to do with the place, building the porn kitchen (it’s a long story), but the bar is all good to go and is an ongoing concern so its fully operational and open so hopefully will be easy change over.
Starting the Berlin clubbing tours next month once the high season finishes so we can offer really cheap deals on parties and accommodation in Berlin, and the flights are cheap cheap cheap.
I have just secured the distribution rights for a Berlin artists work Tim Roelof, he has just done designs for Versace's winter collection, that have been used on dresses, bags, shoes and a sofa for them, his stuff is amazing, and the Versace collection comes out in a few weeks so i have put a team together to deal with all the art sales of the originals, and limited edition prints etc, will post details once its all built.
Having a right laugh with the fact that I’m officially an art dealer.
Been looking into starting an art gallery coffee shop and café possibly Feb / March, with these artists I’m looking at signing, would be a good tie in with the tour company, but this city is just oozing with creative talent, and have heaps of artists on my list to sign up, could need to build a bigger team, but that’s fine, looking forward to getting involved with exciting people, found a guy who still silk screen prints band posters like they did in the 60’s, all hand made, fucking amazing shit…
Life is good, busy but having a ball.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at New Year.
Still cant get over the fact that I actually live in Berlin..

postcard from berlin..
it all started to sink in today about the reality my current situation, spent today starting to get my bearings with an allmighty hangover, and i started to realise that i,m in a huge city and i dont speak german..
for the first 4 hours of my first sober exploration of berlin i went round and round in circles, if i didnt find complete hillarity in that i would have thought i was loosing it, i remember as a kid being good at orienteering, im just gonna cut to the chase and buy a GPS system, from the people i have spoken to it takes a year to know your way around berlin .. fucking hell, a year.. i,m lost now,... hehe
have spent today in a perpetual state of being lost, completly overwelmed, and really enjoying the fact that its overwelming if that makes any sence. this truly is a city of extreams, its very strange having nothing thats familier, and nothing that i own, the camp bed that i,m sleeping on has become a sort of sanctuarry, along with my ipod, cumfort in strange things.. looking forward to my PCs arriving tomorrow and i move into my new apartment so it should feel like i have a base camp and a space thats mine.
havent watched the TV since wednesday, and not sure if i ever will again..
the first thing that has struck me is that in berlin you can do whatever you want as long as its peacefull, i,m not sure if my humor is appreciated completly or maybe i,m trying to hard to be funny, its possibly just that i,m a million miles from my comfort zone, last night i had my first run in with someone who didnt get me, well not really a run in she just catagorically stated that she didnt find me funny or like me, and thats fine i respect her opinion, i thought she was sound, but hey, just my opinion.. haha .
Sunday i went to a street market and to be honest i see nothing but oppertunity, it was like somthing from the 60s or at least how i imagine the 60s were, complete retro time warp and everything for pennys, gonna go on sunday and go buck wild and buy a load of stuff to sell on ebay, the average wage here is around 200 euros a week i recon i could spend 100 euros on sunday and make 500 back in a couple of days and if im right then there is a really good living there, will test it out.. but really like that idea of cruzing markets looking for retro tat, just apeals to the way i want to live my life..
want to get fully involved in selling the art here, its completly amazing, built my first sculpture over the weekend, needs finished but gonna spend a bit more time exploring all the other street art before i do, but its right outside the house i,m living in untill tomorrow so dont know how long it will be there for, but all the other street art just seems to get left so maybe it will be there for ages.. fuck knows..
i have made a really short film its around 3mins of footage, that i need to edit, but will do it later on this week when i get my office set up.
my new friend Verity is gonna lend me her unicycle, it was always my intention to get fit once i was here and i really feel that learning the unicycle suits my current mood, as well as my desire to get fit, in fact i think i,m gonna explore every bizar aspect of my charecter this seems to be the place for self discovery so i may aswell embrace the fact that i,m not normal and have some fun with it.. haha
the most anoying thing so far is that all the keys on this keyboard are in different places, and that bikes come from every angle, ive been nearly taken out a couple of times, could be worse, i could have pissed myself.. haha
the whole place sounds different, i,m not sure if because of the extremity of the situation, that my sences have no choice but to work overtime, but the music and sounds of this city are wild, from gabba to people playing the spoons, and thats just in 100 yards from my camp bed were i,m staying..
found a really cool jazz bar this evening so i think i,m gonna head there just now get involved with the locals, dont th10 Comments 469 days
