The Workers Solidarity Movement was founded in Dublin, Ireland in 1984 following discussions by a number of local anarchist groups on the need for a national anarchist organisation. At that time with unemployment and inequality on the rise, there seemed every reason to argue for anarchism and for a revolutionary change in Irish society. This has not changed.
As anarchists we see ourselves as part of a long tradition that has fought against all forms of authoritarianism and exploitation. Members are currently involved in campaigns like F.E.E (Free Education For Everyone) and Choice Ireland, along with social projects like Seomra Spraoi.
"freedom without Socialism is privilege and injustice, Socialism without freedom is slavery and brutality"

Dublin: After Apartheid: Social Struggles in South Africa
A Public Meeting hosted by the WSM
This Monday, 26th October at 19:30, come along to the Central Hotel on Exchequer Street to hear a first hand account of Social Struggles in South Africa since the fall of Apartheid. Hear about the strikes and community revolt, and how normal people are fighting back! With a guest speaker from the Zabalaza ACF.
Mon 26th Oct,
19:30
Central Hotel,
Exchequer Street.
This meeting will present a brief history of southern African anarchism and anarcho-syndicalism and the current situation South African anarchists face. It will also deal with the current context: the xenophobic pogroms of 2008, the recent election of Jacob Zuma as president and what his administration means for the popular classes, the effects of the global economic crisis on South Africa - the recent wave of strikes, community revolts and more, and activities anarchists are involved in. Our comrade's presentation will also look at the situations and struggles in Zimbabwe and Swaziland, and relate how events in the southern Africa region connect with other struggles around the world, like here in Ireland.0 commenti 38 giorni

Sligo Public Meeting: Capitalism is Failing Us; Anarchism is Fighting Back
Meeting Date: Saturday, 27th of June
Time : 3pm
Location : Lissadell Suite, Sligo City Hotel
The financial crisis rumbles on and local election results have shown clearly that there is no public support for the governments policies. Every time Brian Cowen or Brian Lenihan appear on the TV news they look like rabbits caught in headlights.
But one thing’s for sure – they know who they’re going to pin the blame on. And who they are going to make pay. It won’t be the property developers, who have pocketed billions in the last few years. Nor will it be the bankers and stockbrokers, who have indulged in reckless financial gambling.
No, they’ve decided that it is ordinary workers who will pay for this financial mess. Huge numbers of workers in the private sector – from construction to catering to I.T. - have been cast onto the dole queues. A 2% levy has been imposed on all our wages. And a further pay cut in the form of a ‘pension levy’ was stolen from the pay packets of public sector workers.
And, have no doubt about it, the next budget will be another round of cuts and attacks on our jobs and wages. Because a political decision has been made that it is workers and the poorer sections of society who will pay.
The government has no intention of addressing the real causes of the financial crisis. To do so would mean addressing the very nature of the capitalist political system, it would mean asking fundamental questions about who controls the wealth and how much say ordinary people really have over our lives.
The Workers Solidarity Movement is hosting a talk on the financial crisis and other systemic crises faced by global capitalism including the ongoing destruction of the ecological base and the speedy approach of hard resource limits to capitalism's "infinite growth" model, all of which demand an urgent transition to a more sustainable, just and equitable social model.
Come along to find out more about the alternatives or if you want to talk about how yourself or others might get involved in organizing the fightback.
