- Katie Melua was born in Georgia (former USSR) in 1984 growing up in the capital Tbilisi and later the seaside town of Batumi. The family left Georgia when Katie was 8 and moved to Belfast due to her father’s profession as a heart surgeon. When Katie told this to one of her teachers later on in England he described the move as: "from the frying pan into the fire". She never really viewed it as that because she had a great childhood both in Georgia and Northern Ireland. Katie found the people in Northern Ireland extremely warm and made great friends at St. Catherine’s Primary School and Dominican College, Fortwilliam - Katie went to catholic schools in Northern Ireland while her younger brother went to a protestant school.

Recording Update
The recording of Katie’s forthcoming third album continues apace…
Brass sections have been recorded at Dramatico’s studios and this week saw the recording entourage travel to Dublin where The Irish Film Orchestra (used on both previous albums) added strings to six tracks.
The recording has also yielded an as-yet unnamed Prince cover version, which may or may not make it onto the album. The Minneapolis Maestro has performed ‘Nine Million Bicycles’ several times on stage, and is a huge fan.
Mike Batt: “He invited us to his ‘secret’ London gig last month at Koko in Camden, so we thought we’d return the compliment. We also met him the next day when he invited us to a private charity gig he was doing. He seemed very nice. I’ve had this Prince song kicking about in my head for years; not one of his better known ones."
The album is currently still on schedule for a September release. There’s no word on a title or any other song details yet, but a new photo session for the sleeve and press shots has been scheduled, so things are motoring along in the background…!0 Comments 898 days

Plácido Domingo confirms Guest Appearance by Katie Melua
Announcing the World premiere of two award-winning artists together on stage for what promises to be a magical night of music - Katie Melua joins world-famous tenor Plácido Domingo at the M.E.N Arena on Wednesday 2 May 2007.
Katie, who wowed M.E.N Arena audiences in January 2006, joins the Spanish tenor on stage at his only UK show of 2007 for a very special guest appearance. Katie will perform three of her best-known songs and duet with the maestro in this unique collaboration of classical and modern music.
Marking his first solo appearance in this country for over a decade, Placido Domingo, who rose to prominence as one of The Three Tenors - alongside Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras - has been hailed in the international press as “The King of Opera” and “The greatest operatic artist of modern times”.
