Interview with lead singer of "Minutes Away" Matt Rennick. Chances are you’ve only heard of Minutes Away few times before, but haven’t checked them out yet. If this is the case, you have no excuse for not knowing who they are now. Quickly becoming a part of mainstream consciousness, the Irish sextet are going to be making big waves with the release of their first album, "Taken the blame." Matt Rennick talks about Artistic growth First album with Emo, post-punk songs, and New gigs. Read on for all the dirt…

- First thing’s first.. when and what made you's decide to form a band?

Matt: There was no one real event or person that made us want to form a band,we've just loved music since we were kids and had a bunch of friends who felt the same,.so it grew from there..

-How did you come up with the name "Minutes Away"

Matt: Well..i was at work and the three of us were textin each other all sorts of names for the band and we put Minutes and Away to gether and it was born from there..

-Do you write your own songs or do you have a song-writer do it for you and what's your inspiration every time?

Matt: We write our own songs. Inspiration comes from my life and my thoughts everyday

-How would you describe the album in your own words?

Matt: It’s kind of hard to nail it down to one thing, I know a lot of bands say the same old thing about “it’s a combination of this, this, this and this,” but it’s just a big rock album with influences ranging from our love of ska rock and emo with sceamo,to our love of ‘80s new wave and our love of punk, it’s a combination of everything. Ultimately it’s just a cool big rock album I think.

- Have you played any gigs yet with any of the new material?

Matt: Yeah, we did our first show in the Collegiate Grammar School where we played the new stuff, and it was awesome. It went down really well. It is nice to be playing songs after three years being together as a band on and off trying out new stuff..It was only last year that we decided to kick the band sence back up..And start to get gigs..

- How do you think the fan response has been to them so far?

Matt: Good, I mean, our show was really small so I think the fans that came would’ve fucking liked anything. [laughs] we had alot of reponse from other bands themslves which was nice and alot of comments from loads of fans so its kicking off nicely.. It’s just nice to play new stuff and test out new material to people..

- How do you think you guys have evolved musically since " Taken The Blame" ablum which is due to be out soon...

Matt: We kind of learned how to write songs as we went along we would add all these rifts and bits and words and we just throw them down,with alot of thought into it,..to make music people can relate to and understand and it’s cool to do a record like that.. I think with this album we can do just that as we wanted to structure and write real songs, with real choruses and a real cool vibe to each song...

- Did you take vocal lessons?

Matt: No, I’ve tried like once or twice,on the internet but I only got to the first lesson and then I could not be bothered anymore. I know I should stick with it, ‘cause it’s kind of like driving when you first get into the car on your first driving lesson and everything seems so overwhelming and hard, you just go to vocal lessons and they’re like “do this, sing like this, try that, do that,” you know? I can’t do all this and sing..., I dont know what the fuck I was doing.i learned as i went along as playing the guitar reali does keep your voice in tune and it takes years to get it right..so i thank god i picked up the guitar..[laughs]

- What was the inspiration for "Taken The Blame"?

Matt: Lyrically, it was kind of about when someone is the blame but wont take the blame for it, and someone else takes the fall for it.. just the fact that whether you’ve been the blame for something and lets you down.
