And so it begins...
It was a cold morning. Dublin airport, barely 4am. They sent all the Irish down to the basement to “Area 14” to check in for flights to England.
Loads of check in desks, hundreds of passengers. ONE Aer Lingus worker. Much rage later (which involved Paula’s mom cornering anyone who came down the stairs, Rosie’s dad puffing and Paula’s dad making friends with everyone we checked in) we checked in out bags.
Next stop vodka. 2 litres, €20. Thank you very much.
Finally we get on the plane, taxi out to the runway...and turn back to the airport. Ah yeah, a man needs medical attention. Frankly, unless he’s having a heart attack we have a plane to catch. (We had 2 hours to get from one terminal to another in Heathrow.)
“Nee naw nee naw...” the sound of us getting VIPed through Heathrow airport (accompanied by Rosie doing her Queen wave.) Yes we got to go on the golf cart. Yes we felt special. And yes they did take our fuckin vodka off us cos you’re not allowed liquids. Wankers.
We thought we’d finally hit a good streak when, low and behold, we got crisps AND a twix for lunch. Yum yum yum yum yum.
But no....
We get to Washington (half an hour early) but our bags don’t. Paula has a suitcase full of clothes...but no cosmetics. Rosie has the smallest tub of foundation you will ever see...and nothing else. Except Cosmo. And Marie Claire. And something else. And maybe chocolate.
At this stage we feel like Olympians. We have ran (not jogged) the length of Heathrow airport and possibly briskly walked through Washington airport. We’re too delirious to remember at this stage.
So we get on our final flight to Boston (after almost puking at this ugly couple mauling each other. He actually gave her a hickey in the airport. At the boarding gate.) Rosie makes a baldy friend whose “married” but has no ring. It was his “anniversary” apparently. We get our one case and go talk to the wankers who lost our baggage. The lady tells us they’ll be there within an hour. Ah how naive we were to believe her. We go and spend 20 minutes making ourselves look presentable for the frat guys and head back to get our luggage. Half an hour later no baggage to be seen but a baggage handler rapping...in French.
Rosie goes to investigate and comes back with 50 dolla in food vouchers and news that we’ll have 2 wait another hour and a half. We must have looked hungry.
So we spend the 50 dolla on Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts!
And so that takes us back to the present. 24 hours since leaving Dublin and we’re still in the airport...except now we’re surrounded with baked goods and the BIGGEST hot chocolates you’ve ever seen. Not that we can eat any of it but sure it was free!!!

*The last night of the fireworks when we went to English Bay and somehow managed to get a spot on the beach...they were so pretty!
*Family dinner in Tatlow's
*The whole weekend in Tofino...especially when Barry put his wetsuit on backwards and Dec was real stoned at the campsite!
*The two days out on Will's boat; getting fish n chips, jumping off the pier (even if it took me 10 minutes to do it) and attempting to waterski
*The first night Dave and Shane took out the guitars for a session n then me n Rosie went sneaking into their room. she threw everything she could find at Dave and I poked Shane in the ribs...followed by an apology letter to them from their 'sneak-ret admirerers' and a peace offering of Roger's ice-cream
*The first night me, Rosie and Will went sneaking...hehe
*The all night rager we had the first night the new Irish came...we danced on the coffee table for hours and stayed up till 9 burning ear on the couch outside. Dec was hammered and k.oed on the chair...so we painted his nails red, along with Quinn, Potter and Kev (who were awake!)
*The evening we had a campfire at the beach, even though it was really cold!
*Sliding down the hill covered in snow in Whistler
