- I am a writer, originally from the north of England, and now living in Spain. Before becoming a full-time writer I taught English at the universities of A Coruña (Spain), Hull (UK) and York (UK). For about ten years I lived in Hull, which is a great place, and I was sorry to leave. On the other hand, I am married to someone who comes from Galicia in north Spain, and living here has a lot of advantages. In fact, I'm writing a book about the place, as a sort of diversion from fiction, which is my main line of work.

- I like jazz, particularly big bands; classical music generally; any rock which is not heavy metal or thrashy. I love the British new-wave singer Joe Jackson, and anything involving a Hammond organ.

Starting off
This is a new departure for me, and it comes at a strange time. I have book out at the moment in the US, with a paperback version of it due out in February. Then there are a few other things currently up in the air. Everything just seemed to go up in the air at once, and I am waiting for news on a number of fronts. In the meantime I'm writing fiction as normal - a new collection of long stories - plus a book of non-fiction about travel and food.
