- I'm Joe. I live in various parts of Kildare. Spend most weeks this year in Maynooth at university, studying Science second year). I'm a native of Newbridge and return home for the weekends. I look scruffy but act poncy to counterbalance. I have a penchant for awful puns and bad jokes, linguistics, music, drama and other stuff. I am never bored and I am firmly of the belief Bebo is evil only if you let it consume you. Check out the bands La Poderosa {rock}, Simeon {trindie} and my solo music (id est: the unsorted stuff). I may put a novel up here if I ever finish writing one.
Knockadoon is one of the coolest places on earth. Roll on KAD 08!
Now for all the mathematicians in need of a chuckle (or anyone with second level education): f(x) walks into a bar. He asks for a drink and the barman says "Sorry, we don't do functions here!". [B'dum dum ch*]
On that note I leave thee to get on with thy life. Bonne chance agus beannachtaí Dé chugat!

The New Irish - a bilingual poem
19ú Bealtaine 2008 – A treatise on misfortune. Told bilingually.
Is mise an eadóchas i súile an cheoltóra a bhainneann a cheard lasmuigh de
siopa beag bocht an bhruachbhailte.
I'm the plume of smoke as it rises forlorn – a hand that is hardened by
apathy and poverty (rud salach)
Is mise an ghuth d'fhear gan léacht ná scríobh ag baint a saol 'is saol a chlainne
i bpé áit atá fáilte rompu.
I siopa Naoimh Uinseann a chonarc é,
ar lorg an "sean-ceol":
–"None of this new boyband rubbish"
Fear crua, ach fear, faraor, atá ligthe ar lár
ag ár sochaí úr geal nu[a]
I'm the thought in the mind of the bargain-cashier:
watching the throngs who can afford no more
than the twenty-cent tin of tired beans.
Herself among them, no doubt of it.
She knows the score:
–"Faic den brúscar saibhir sin"
Says she in her hidden pilgrim tongue,
the Voice of Exile: living on her means.
Is mise an praghas a n-íoctar
d'ár saibhreas, d'ár luach, d'ár carranna nua.
An praghas ard, do-fheicthe a n-íoctar ar an imeall.
The price of our decadence,
our hedonism, our pride:
An praghas a n-íocfar ag chuile duine, ar a laghad,
má leagann neart ár tíogar geal.
Bí cúramach: beidh deireadh d'ár seal saol sealadach gáire geal.
Ná bí an té ar an imeall.0 komentarze 496 dni

An féidir leat do theanga a úsáid?
Again written for 'News & Views', Newbridge's parish magazine, I thought I'd put it out there again, what with Seachtain na Gaeilge ag teacht go tapaidh.
An féidir leat úsaid a bhaint as an Ghaeilge? Is féidir, má tá suim agat. Tá stadás ait ag an nGaeilge sa lá atá inniú ann. Fadó fadó bhíodh mar theanga dhúcais í do chuile duine ar an t-oileann seo, ach i rith na bhlianta leag tionchair an Ghaeilge ar na Ghaeil. Le linn na céidte blianta bhí an teanga naiscaíthe go daingean don bochtanas: ní labhróidh ach féirmeoirí prátaí san Iarthar í agus ansin tháinig an Gorta Mór mar buailleadh marfach di. Bheuil, beagnach marfach.
Tharla rud an-neamhghnách ag deireadh an 19ú haois. Chuir intleachtóirí agus filí saibhir suim sa theanga. Bhí an-chuid acu ón iasacht. Bhí níos mó de shliocht Shasanach. Níorbh Gaeil boichte iad. B'ealaíontóirí iad. Sa ré seo tháinig an CLG chun cinn agus neart cumainn eile leis an ghaeilge agus cultúr Éireann mar bhuncloch dóibh. D'aithraigh seo an treo a bhí an teanga ag dul. Ba siombal stadás í i gciorcail áirithe. Bhain labhairt an teanga le tírghrá agus bhí aird tugaithe ag an bpobal don duine a bhíodh in ann Gaeilge a labhairt.
Bhí an Ghaeilge i lár gach rud a rinne laochra an Phoblachta. Ba mhúinteoir Gaelainne Padraig Mac Phiaras agus cuid eile des na baill d'Éirí Amach na Cásca 1916. Scríobhadh Fórógra na Poblachta i nGaeilge roimh a n-aistriúchán.
Idir bunú an stáit agus inniú, áfach, meath suim sa Ghaeilge arís. Sna '00í, in ainneoin aon rud a deireann daoine sa daonáireamh, ní teanga cainte í. Ní chloistear comhrá ar an sráid. Ní féidir an teanga dhúchais a labhairt ach amháin ar scoil nó i gcummainn Gaeilge. Agus inniú, sna laethanta in a bhfuil na scórtha teangacha le cloisteáil timpeall orainn: Pólainis, Sínis, Rómáinis, agus i bhfad níos mó, ba chóir dúinn ár teanga a choimead beo! Ta trí bhliana déag d'fhoghlaim déannta ag an fórmhór dúinn: tá na focail againn ach ní spreagann ár sochaí sinn í a labhairt tar éis brú a chur orainn scrúdaithe a dhéanamh as Ghaeilge.
Téann an-chuid déagóirí go dtí an Ghaeltacht i rith an tsamhraidh agus is dea-rud é seo, má labhraítear an Gaeilge ann. Tá an iomarca Gaeltachtaí nach bhfuil faic ach summer camp iontu. Ní fiú é dul muna labhraíonn tú an teanga. Tá dóchas don teanga sna Gaelscoileanna, ach caithfimid go léir Gaeilge a labhairt. Má tá suim agat, tosaigh ag caint! Is féidir leat difriúil a dhéanamh. Níl ort a bheith líofa, just cuir do chúpla focal isteach. Ba bhreá liom cúpla nathanna Gaeilge a cloisint i gcomhrá Béarla. Ní seasann an Ghaeilge ina haonair. Tá domhan il-cultúrtha againn: is féidir linn caint dhá-theangacha a bheith againn. Is féidir – agus is fearr – an Ghaeilge agus an Béarla a bheith beo le chéile.
Léan ar aghaidh: déan do phairt ar son do theanga. Más féidir leat, bain úsáid aisti.

Faith for the Journey
I wrote this for the parish 'News and Views' magazine in October. Why not have a read! (AMDG)
Faith is difficult at times. For periods of our lives we can, and should, find ourselves questioning our faith and sometimes perhaps abandoning it altogether. This is healthy: faith is empty if it is not tested. It is easy to say "I believe", but it is difficult to truly believe something in your heart. Belief, however, is powerful. It is nourishing for the soul. Too often can we slip into a lifestyle that focuses on the body and the mind and ignores the soul. We stroll through life without stopping to think about its wonders: the warmth of other people, the beauty of the sun setting, the awesomeness of silence.
Life is a spiritual journey where we grow from complete ignorance to some understanding of the Divine. We seek God in all we do – sometimes more actively than others – and we all find our inspiration in different places. This does not devalue anyone's belief. The most important part of the journey is putting your foot upon the road for the first time and carrying on walking in spite of everything. Part of the mystery of the journey is that none of us know quite where we are going.
It is sometimes difficult for young people, like myself, to be enthusiastic about faith. Mass seems the domain of our parents and grandparents and seldom inspires us. Many of us would prefer to stay in bed on Sunday morning than go to Church. Also religion is not the status quo of youth today. Belief is not expected of us and in fact sometimes discouraged by our peers. It's not cool, to be frank. But does that really matter. Belief is a personal thing: a quest to find something greater than yourself, something that surpasses your insecurities and failings.
At Mass, the scriptures give us a guideline to take in our lives and food for thought. Some Bible passages can be surprising and challenging and often these are most worth reading because faith is not easy. The idea of the Church is, fundamentally, to be a supportive community for the development of our faith. We should all feel comfortable to participate in this development. The Eucharist is a meal shared by the community to bring us closer together. We remember Christ's sacrifice and God's love for us. This is powerful. The Mass is a wonderful ritual of learning, coming together and receiving spiritual nourishment, but like all things in life, the wonder of it can be lost in the rigmarole and repetition of day-to-day life. It is so easy to simply go through the motions. The Mass should not just be said, it should be lived.
Worship does not end here. We are sent into the world to continue our journey however we wish, taking what we have learnt and the spiritual strength into our lives. This does not mean we should all become missionaries, but we should talk and act with our souls rather than just with our bodies. A complete life comes from the spirit. The poorest among us can be the happiest, because they are comfortable in themselves.
The greatest part of any journey is the companions you meet on the road, those who inspire us and give us faith for the journey, who make a lasting impact on our lives and act as milestones on the road. The barriers we overcome and the gifts we share with each other define our spiritual journey.
There is a beautiful image that describes the journey of faith: faith is like a mountain and there are many paths to the summit. Some are longer, some are shorter, some easy, some treacherous, but all inevitably lead to the top if we continue walking climbing with resolve. Once we reach the summit, regardless of the tribulations of our individual journeys, we will all find what we seek.1 komentarz 733 dni

Piece-Of-The-Moon33 tygodnie temuFacebook is funded by a company called Greylock Venture Capital, which has links to another company called Q-Tel, the venture-capital wing of the CIA. You don't care about being spied on? Doesn't your bebo say you're a fan of Orwell's 1984 Joe?? I don't particularly like the idea of a surveillance society. Did you know the UK has 1 surveillance camera for every 14 people?
Thought as much, I was about to accuse you of being full of crap! Interesting idea. It definitely works for universities in the States but would it apply to somewhere as small as Maynooth?
Excellent. I can't believe you're posting your communication apparatus code on the internet!

Piece-Of-The-Moon33 tygodnie temuIts a major giveaway that she's being carried by the police! Phone must have been a lot more expensive...
You know facebook is evil right? Its a marketing tool that mediates your friendships in order to make money. Its also funded by a branch of the CIA. Internet citizenship is a fallacy!
Ah yes, Chris is being roped into an interview as well! I'll probably interview you both at the same time for convenience sake. What exactly is the socio-ecosystem?! Are you around at the end of this week or the beginning of next week? -
Piece-Of-The-Moon33 tygodnie temuEmmeline Pankhurst- you were close! The Marxism is working out splendidly. Am actually reading some pretty outlandish theories: mind control through tv and consumerism. I imagine you won't approve! Do you have to pay a lot of money to do that? I've decided to revolt against social networking. I'll be deleting my bebo at the end of the summer.
EP has an amazing vibe! I'm writing my thesis on EP and eco-politics, was wondering if I could interview you about it?? -
Piece-Of-The-Moon33 tygodnie temuIt was last week in between becoming a marxist and resolving to not argue with you anymore. Being a female Robin Hood would be pretty amazing though! Can you guess who's in the profile photo?

Meh I'm grand, trying to work on the mocks situation. Their not till after midterm so trying to do a bit or work!
How mighht you be? -
Piece-Of-The-Moon42 tygodnie temuNo I'm pretty sure it proves the extent I'm willing to go to in order to gloat. In my defence:
1. I'm not going to argue about something I can't even define.
2. You can argue with me all you want, but you can't argue with a dictionary (I take that back, I'm sure you could argue with a dictionary, but you'd find it very unproductive).
3. The world should know when Joe Byrne makes stuff up!
Sub-zero precipitation is not my thing. Unless it involves snowball fights. It is good to be back in college though, regardless of Siberia outside. What about you? Do you have any snow related opinions to share? -
