The Big Bad World: New Year's Resolutions / Pimp My Business
Well, new year celebrations have come and gone, the crisps are stale, the beer is flat, and that mistletoe hat you bought just isn't funny anymore...
Having decided on a few New Year's resolutions, all under the title of Sort My Life Out, just trying to make life that little bit more interesting. They range from driving lessons to standing up for myself.
I thought I'd fill you in on a resolution I've completed: starting a business. With under 90 days to go til wedding season, I needed a way out... I think I've found something I'm truly enthusiastic about.

I'm working on producing web videos for different companies explaining products and concepts. Basically advertising. But I've already got a client, and it can only grow from there. It could be a rocky road but I'm looking forward to it. I think I even feel a little bit of self-respect, weird...
Thought I'd announce it here to see if there's anyone out there who knows a guy, who knows a guy, that needs a video for his/her website. I'll be sticking videos on bebo, and the website, to advertise myself.

The Big Bad World: Deadlines and Comfort Zones
I miss university life. Who wouldn't?! Go out to pubs and clubs during the week, surviving off a student loan, or a part-time job, you kid yourself won't be waiting for you after graduation. Life was great then. But what I've found I care more for...was the deadlines.
Now, don't get me wrong. The work was too much to take sometimes, a lot of it done under the influence of Red Bull and a lack of organization. But somehow I ended up with an honours degree in Cinema, for pete's sake! I think most of that could be credited to deadlines. The influence of losing 10% if I don't hand work in on time, was incredibly inspiring. Strangely inspiring.
But now, after leaving university, the inspiration has gone. There's no authority over how I'm spending my week, no lecturers to hound me for work. I've seemed to have settled into a comfort zone of living at home, working two jobs (video editing and off-license) and no writing. Just going day by day, only having occasional thoughts about writing, but concentrating on another wedding video, or not smashing a buckfast bottle over some smug pug's face.
I thought I would have finished a short film by now, worked on a few scripts and sent them off to be rejected. But I've just settled into my laziness and comfort zones, and become a zombie.
What I had thought of doing was moving into a flat, surviving on whatever money I was bringing in that month, working things for myself.
Maybe poverty inspires creativity.
But my chance to move seems to be slipping away at the moment. And I probably won't move out until middle of next year.
Maybe I should make some new year resolutions. If I have a deadline of over a year, then there's no doubt I'll fulfill one of them...hopefully.

The Big Bad World awaits....
Every minute I feel the relief of finally having finished university, taking that first, stress-free, breath of air outside the exam hall, the "what now?" sighs of relief. Every minute I feel that way, ten seconds is taken up by the fact I'm completely screwed...
Why did I chose this profession? Writing? Editing?
I'm gonna push the thoughts out of my mind until I hold my degree in my hand... okay, once I get back from Vancouver... maybe once I've brought in the new year...
I'll set up a game plan:
I'll rewrite 'til I'm happy and then send an episode of my sitcom off to the BBC Writersroom. Also to the Comedy Unit in Glasgow, just to try and get myself notice...(Close friends, I'll need your opinion on the script)
Something I've been preparing to do for awhile will be made once I get back from Vancouver. Hopefully I'll be able to pull favours together and get all friends to pitch in, but this is something I really want to make...
NEDS: These Are The Fleetos Of The Night
A mockumentary I'll finish, hopefully, by December and stick the trailer on Bebo. I'll send it round and see about getting an editing job. But it is the first of three shorts I want to make...
That's all I've got so far...Shit!
