Let us never forget,
It was just like any normal night,the stars were out,the moon was shining and Woodsie was KO'ing on the beach. I (being Colly) was returning from the burger station with a bottle of water.....For the afore mentioned drunk Monsieur Woods. It was then that I spotted Oggy on the beach with blood pouring from his nose. My first thought was to run over to Oggy....But then I realised it would probably be better to get a few reinforcements before heading into battle......I ran over to the trusty Dave Lorigan.....He having established himself as an aggro drunk at the festival in Bayonne two days previous. Now with my army of Dave and Danny we headed into battle.....When we first reached the scene Chris had already decked one of the lads and once the Algerians witnessed more Mad Irish Men arriving on the scene they took off. Now with a group of roughly ten we chased these Algerians from the beach to the promenade a mere 20 yards away. Doyler and Danny were the first I saw engaging........But even at this early stage it was 4 on 2,I jumped into this mini brawl and after a small tossle I was knocked to the ground....Although I tried to get to my feet as quick as possible...I still received a severe kick to the mouth. I came back out and took 20 seconds recovery time-It was then I saw Joey and to use Oggy's words "Spearing" three guys into a restauraunt...To me this looked like trouble as Joey was now semi-isolated from our group......I needed more recovery time but there simply was none.....I ran towards Joey and his three "Spearees" jumping over an unconscious Chris on the way!!! When I arrived Joey was in a headlock and the two other guys were pounding him...I decked one of the guys(which was my first real contribution to the events) and then the other guy came at me-We had what can only be described as a messy scuffle where nobody got hit. Then space emerged between us for the first time,I went to hit him but as I swung back to punch another Algerian came in and completly destroyed me.I was knocked to the floor but I got up very quickly for fear I would receive another kick.........I stumbled away from the fight at this stage a broken and bereft man I put my hand to my face and felt an incredible amount of blood pouring from my nose. Some waiter was kind enough to find me a seat just as I sat down our group seemed to re assemble.....And the French Guards arrived on the scene.....The Algerian Gypsies realised it was over when the Guards arrived they all ran.........Although we lost the battle...........and the war........We can at least say that we made the Algerian Gypsies run away.......Not once but twice through-out the night........Which is something that we can say with pride that we never did.

It was at approximately 1.15am on the 8th August 2006 that ten brave Irish men went into battle with what seemed to me to be 35 Algerian gypsies...The Irish came second but kept their dignity.....All I can say is we were severly out numbered just like the boys of 1916,so next time you meet an Algerian Gypsie make sure you make him apologise from the "Ten Minutes Of Oppression"!
