The majorettes attended a dance competition in Dublin on Sunday the 9th of December, we had an early start as the bus left at 6am. The day began quite badly as when we arrived at the dance hall we were delayed 2 hours as the janitor had not shown up to open the doors. So we eventually left that hall and went to the hall that we usually go to. When we arrived we began the marching, followed by the T strut and military strut, fancy strut (congrats to Sarah Keating who came 1st) Then baton solos and baton dance routines. This was the 1st year that cahir entered this competition and it was quite a sucess as "Sarahs team" came first in the senior category, they performed "The egyptian song" and it was a fantastic display! The costumes were just fantastic. Then came the pom pom dances. Cahir performed three breath taking dances, "Kids in America" , "Candyman" and "Cotton eyed Joe". Kids in America and "Cotton eyed Joe" both came 1st in their categories. Unfortunately for the girls who performed "Candyman" ,they were disqualified as a girl on the team was chewing gum, and little did she, or anyone else for that matter , know that chewing gum was a health hazard and they were immediatly disqualified. The judge who decided this was possibly the rudest person I have ever come across in my life, as when the girls were performing she simply shook her head and waved her arms around , trying to imply the girls should stop but the girls didnt understand what was happening so, they kept going. To make matters worse the judge stood up and turned around, refusing to watch them.The other just simply sat there covering her face with her hands. Nobody could believe the ignorance the judges had displayed, including our two fantastic dance teachers Claire and Marcella who tried to reason with the judges but to no avail. After all this commotion there was a raffle and Aoife Burke from Cahir won a large snowman teddy who is now the Cahir Majorettes mascot, who was named "It" by Aoife. We arrived home at roughly 10 pm.

Hard luck to the Candyman girls, ye couldn't have performed any better.
