CD Plus stores to feature Aboriginal music

CD Plus has created an entire rack in its stores across Canada specifically devoted to Aboriginal Music.

Promoters hope it will help increase the exposure independent aboriginal artists get in this country.

Leanne Goose, an Aboriginal singer who lives in the remote Northwest Territories, says it's especially hard for artists in remote areas to promote their music.

"There isn't very many places to play, or for large venues to play music. It's just not happening at home," says Goose.

John Toews from CD Plus says the new shelves will have two benefits.

The company will be bringing a new group of people into their stores, as well as providing an outlet for people to find the music they want to hear.

Established performers will not be featured in the new rack. Instead, the new Aboriginal section is meant for new and independent artists to get their music to a national audience.
