I like my music because the lyrics are about things that I can relate to. Things like feeling sorry and ashamed of mistakes in life. Even more mainstream bands like Linkin Park and P.O.D make music about those real life issues. For me it’s a way of dealing and understanding who I am. And then there is a part of it which is comfort. Comfort that I’m not the only one, that there are other people in the world going through or getting over the same issues that I have. But still people tell me what kind of music I should listen to. Their reasoning for this being: “oh your music sucks” or “oh your music is sooo emo”… it bothers me that people feel just because they don’t like my music they tell me what I should listen to.
Personally I don’t care if you don’t like my music as the saying goes: ‘each to their own’ you’re going to like your style of music and I’m going to like my style. But don’t tell me what I should listen to, when you don’t know why I listen to it.

There is one particular person who tells me that my music is “crap”, because they believe what I listen to is ‘emo’. Which its not might I add. Still, that would be a rather stupid reason to not listen to music… because it was specifically generalized.

Also from the music I listen to people start assuming that they can tell what kind of person I am. They assume that I’m ‘emo’ they assume that I cut myself; they assume I want to kill myself, and they assume that I’m a bad person who hates the world.
So what if I’m ‘emo’, so what if I cut myself, or have previously it’s not their business? I don’t want to kill myself, im not a bad person and I don’t hate the world…. And you can’t judge me because of my music.

I have to say though; there are some people out there that aren’t like the people I mentioned earlier. But if you are that kind of person, you might want to open your mouth and use it constructively. Maybe to find out why people listen to the music they do, and find out what kind of person they are before you decide to judge them…or their music.
