• Mine and Phoenix little update

  Phoenix has been doing well in school. Last year he won the Exceptional Scholarship Award and this year his short story was chosen to be published in the Grade 5 short stories book. Since he won this regional writing contest, his story has been automatically entered into the National writing contest. I hope he does well. He was laughing at me because my first published story was when I was 16. It was a BC writing contest on Youth and the Environment. I won the BC award and made the National Board for Youth and the Environment. I got to do some policy development in Ottawa during a week long conference. So, he was joking with me about being 10 and winning and me being 16, lol. So, I'm hoping and praying he wins this National contest then he can truly brag outright, but no matter what, he's made such a major contribution already. I'm so proud of him.
  
  In math, long division was a little hard for him, so we made flash cards and found another way to solve the problems. Now he's having a blast with it, there is no stopping him when I give him a problem. The secret to this enthusiasm is that I make a game of it. I'm always making little games for him that have undertones of Grade 5 curriculum, lol. My poor son, I'm sure he's going to figure this one out soon and either laugh at me or be mad at me.
  
  For science, he's already doing physics. He has to build a catapult by Tuesday, by the end of this science semester, they will actually be building a machine a real working machine. Every friday is hands on learning at his school. Whether it be outdoor education applying with they've learned in the class; or hands on applications, they are constantly doing great things at his school. I love what this school has done for my son, just love it.
  
  For Social Studies, his teacher allowed all the First Nations parents to read over the material she'll be teaching them. It was awesome, we are able to add our two cents of what our history has been like for us. Me, a Zinn thinker myself, had more than two cents to add, lol. They didn't have anything for Black History month which kind of bothered me, but they are tight for weekly lesson plans. I suggested having Phoenix read the "I Have a Dream" speech, but that didn't come to fruition. Well, I don't think it's too late, I hope she reconsiders.
  
  For PE, she lets both Phoenix and Kwasun take the lead in helping with the sports activities. I think this is awesome because it's giving Phoenix the courage to take more leadership roles. My son is a very shy, quiet individual, so this gives him a chance to use his voice. It's so cute because a handful of the children just love Phoenix. Some of the kids fight over being his buddie when it's time buddie up. Awww.
  
  Both Phoenix and I have been playing soccer. He's playing for U-12 Juan de Fuca and I'm playing for Victoria West Scottish Over 30's. We are having our year end dinner party for Phoenix's team at Boston Pizza this Thursday. Me being the assistant coach needs to find some good goodie bag stuff for 12 year olds. lol. I've had a tough time being the assistant coach. My son's head coach does not like taking advise from a woman. He's never played soccer, but decided to coach so his son could play. I've played for years and know what to do, know what the boys need to work on and how to get the boys to do the drills, but the head coach doesn't listen to much of what I have to say. One more game and we're free from him. I love the bunch of kids on the team, but don't like the coach that much, lol. We lost Phoenix's best friend because the coach was mean to him. So, we'll be finding a new team to play with next year. I'm not sure if we are going to go back to Gorge or try Lakehill.
  
  I tried to get Phoenix into basketball here, but the timing with the Friendship Centre didn't work out. I had a coach lined up and everything, but Bruce Parisian didn't get back to me about the gym. Biggy up to Edgar for wan

• Alright, it's been a while since I've written in here - so here it goes

  One more day of work then I get TWO DAYS OF HOLIDAYS
  
  Grrrr, I hate my boss right now. She truly is a twit, I don't know how she got the job in the first place. She wanted to work the holidays because she has nothing better to do. She is a lonely, sad individual who made her whole staff work because she wants people to feel sad for us - what a turd ball. (Really, she just likes the free chocolates, cookies and hot chocolate).
  She was bugging me all day about not dating - like "What is wrong with me?" Okay, maybe I am picky, but at least I have class and morals. Enough about her, she's a waste of my energy. Got that out, lol.
  AAAHHHHHH I need a new job. Like, yesterday.
  
  On to the good stuff. My son and I had been thoroughly enjoying the snow. Sledding every day, snowball fights, snow forts and and snowboarding with his friends. He just loves it so much, he done his homework every day at school to maximize his time on the Shoreline hills. I froze my butt off every night, but it was well worth it watching him have fun, laugh, bail and zoom down the hills. It was also fun watching him trying to climb back up, lol.
  I foolishly spilt coffee on my digital camera's charger, so I have no photo's of this eventful winter fun. I dared Phoenix to cut his first slope snowboarding down Shoreline, he done it on the first try. I was like, "Atta boy!!!!!" At first I was too scared to pummel him with my amazing pelts of snowballs, but I quickly learned that I should have been the one to be afraid. He and his friends charged me with arsenals of snowballs, every which way I turned they were attacking me, but I got them back HE HE HE HE.>
  
  Our cat Hunter just loved playing in the snow. With each step he took in the snow, he looked back at that patterns he was leaving behind him. He tried to catch the falling snowflakes and cried to go back out again when I brought him in. And when I tried to close the balcony door on him, he cried to come back in. What a wiener!!!!
  I was thinking of chucking him off the balcony again, the snow would have been so much softer than the summer ground, lol. But I didn't. Really.
  
  I miss my son so much, it's only Tuesday and he left on Sunday. It feels like a week already and he'll be gone until the 27th. He's having so much fun in Nanaimo though. He and his father really needed this time together. It's just so hard not seeing him every day. He's 10 now and is growing so fast, it's unbelievable. It's so weird being home alone. So quiet.
  
  He's doing very well in school. Both he and Sheldon had to move up to U-12 because it was the only team left that would take them late in the season. They are doing alright, holding their own weight amongst their older counterparts. They had to transfer to Juan de Fuca this year. He's only 10, but already almost as tall as me and weights 100 lbs. He's my little giant. When he was a toddler, he looked up at me and asked, "When I grow up, am I going to be a giant just like dad?" LOL. It's so cute how children see us eh! Well, he's only 10 and a giant already.
  He's such a gentle, loving soul that kids everywhere just love him. I teach him as best I can. Enjoy the moments you have with your children. You're going to blink and they'll be on their own soon enough.
  I can't believe in about 8 or 10 years, he'll be on his own. Paving the way to his own destiny with the choices I have taught him to make. I always tell him their are either rewards or consequences to each choice we make. Think about how your choices are going to affect those around you. He's such a good boy, with such a big heart. I love him soooooo much. I hope I can do all I can for him. I know there are things I can do better. A New Year is coming to fruition. Time to clean out my closet.
