Ive known Daire for years but i always thought he was a bit of a fruitcake and a faggot but during 5th year we began hanging around the same area and well we sort of began to talk and eventually through trust and mutual respect became friends.
My first experience of Paddy "the ledge" Gillespie was his first nite out in the limelite glenties. I remember he was so innocent and young and me and noreen were lookin after him.
My first encounter with Vinny padge was this one time i was in noreens and me and john b went down to collect noreen at bo's and i saw vinny and sum other people outside.

so thats how i knew them all. well so it all started one nite paddy was walkin from bonners to his house which ive walkedmany a time since. well anyway paddy rang daire at like 2am in the morning and askedhim to practice for there previous band which was shite. well daire came out with the bombshell that he had left the band and paddy said wel so am i and that was the end of that band. so well paddy said do you wann start our own band and daire said yeah i suppose so. so that was a drummer and a lead guitarist so they needed a bass player and of course a singer. paddy told daire of this mysterious character he knew called Vincent Daniel Gallagher who was wantin to join a band to play bass and sing so daire said yeah sure why not. so that was that the band waspretty much formed.

the first few practices went terribly paddy and daire were dedicated but vinny just wasnt he turned up for one practice once but never returned and told paddy he quit. Daire then was at school one day and mentioned the band to me and said i could sing and so on but i said yeah ok but inside i didnt really want to. So basiclly we had no practices until one sunday i got the phone call, it was daire, he asked me would i be able to practice i said terrifyingly yes but where he said paddys i said ok.

So we arrived down in paddys carrying our small amps and our guitars under our arms we had no p.a. just a shite set up. so we began thinkin of songs to do but we needed a bass player so we began thinkin of candidates but at the back of our minds we always had vinny. Several practices went by and we had no bass player. our efforts were focused on vinny paddy kept askin him and the first time i spoke to vinny was when we were in limelte and i said vinny your missing the practice but vinny kept saying he was shite at bass and said daires shite at the guitar(suck on them apples). Vinny then met paddy and said he was taling to me and he decide to join the band. so it was settled the first practice we met up down in paddys house and we learned 3 songs and we thought we were class so we deserved a break so we didnt learn a new song for a while. We had several practices and then one day elaine the yank came down and recorded us on the phone then she played it to the local publican coleen doherty owner of bonners and she gave us our first gig st patricks day.

Now we had something to focus on and we had to cram in as much songs as we could we were doin so well that one day we even learned 7 songs mighty. we played a recordin on vinnys phone of a cartoon and laughed. The pressure was on only a few more days left til the big debut we had 20 odd songs set aside and we were ready. But wait we had no P.A wat were we goin to do i then had a thought which was very rare for me, why dont we use my neighbours P.A Danny Boyle cause he had a band but they were shit so they fell apart. So i made the contact and i was settled we would borow the P.A from them. Our first practice with the P.A. was in one word MIGHTY, We sounded better instead of using shitty Amps.
