They formed in 2000 as a trio, and were joined by second guitarist Imaad Wasif in 2006 for touring purposes.

  • Yeah Yeah Yeahs to release new EP

    (Taken from Myspace)

RELEASE DATE JULY 24 (JULY 23 EUROPE)

IS IS isn't your mommy or daddy's EP
    Bad.
    Suggestive.
    Wrong.
Yes. Yes. YEAH! What's a summer without a little stinking trash to roll around in? We've got the garbage oh yeah we do, dumped into five songs to encourage bad listening habits. YYYS would love to heat up and bother you at a loud volume, so please help us help you and seek out our new tunes? Some of you may know a few of these songs, we've been terrorizing with them at our shows for years, Rockers to Swallow, Down Boy, 10X10, WE GUARANTEE YOU HAVE NEVER HEARD THEM LIKE THIS BEFORE, nor have you heard them ALL. We deliver them to you with a snarl this July accompanied with new videos all shot in the dark at a very intimate show we threw last month. We cannot tell you how EXCITED the three of us are to drop this music in your laps, our mouths water at thought of you listening to RTS (ep's first track) in your car stereos.
Summer nights are made for this shit.
This shit IS IS made for summer nights.

    THE EP
Songs for the EP were written in 2004 in between touring behind their first record Fever to Tell.
Written amidst one of the most turbulent and emotionally unstable periods in YYYs history, for whatever reason the angst that colored that point in time translates erotically into a sexually charged body of songs. On their choice of producer, Karen O intones; "Nick Launay was the natural choice having produced PIL Flowers of Romance, collectively a favorite between us. I put that record on and want to stuff my mouth with raw hamburger meat.". Is Is is an expression of similar sordid energy, the rawness is unavoidable and good for you too!

    THE FILM
YYYs have captured all this excitement in the EP recordings. In fact, they love playing them so much they’ve made a special live film to accompany the EP with co-directors KK Barrett (Sofia Coppola films) and Lance Bangs (video director - Sonic Youth, Nirvana and producer of Director’s Cut series of DVDs – Michel Gondry, Spike Jonze, Chris Cunningham). Recorded in night-vision at Glasslands Gallery in Brooklyn on 7th May, the band played 2 sets that night to just 100 lucky fans each time – the first for a mixed audience and the second for females only. There will be 2 filmed versions of lead track Down Boy – one live, and one to EP audio.

EP TRACKLISTING: 1.Rockers to Swallow* 2.Down Boy* 3.Kiss Kiss 4.Isis 5.10x10*. *previously only available on the Tell Me What Rockers To Swallow live DVD with the exception of Down Boy, a demo version of which appeared on a limited edition split 7” single with Liars in Japan and Australia. FORMATS: The EP will be available on CD, double gatefold 7” vinyl, single track download and digital bundle in addition to a special USB stick. All formats will carry all 5 tracks, making this a special, non chart-eligible, release.

Please note – EP title is “Is Is” with a space in between the first “s” and the second “I” whereas track “Isis” has no space.

    Confused?

    Don’t be.

  • Karen O

Karen Lee Orzolek, better known as Karen O, is the lead vocalist for the New York art punk band Yeah Yeah Yeahs. She was born on November 22, 1978 in South Korea.

Karen's mother is Korean and father is Polish. Karen grew up in New Jersey, and attended Oberlin College, but transferred to New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.

Karen O has been noted for her sense of fashion. All of her costumes are designed by fashion designer and friend Christian Joy.

She is also well known for her outrageous antics during live shows. She is known to often spit water or beer, or sometimes grapes into the crowd, humping the stage monitors, or suggestively playing with her microphone. Her on-stage antics have been compared to punk legends like Iggy Pop and Patti Smith.

During a tour for the 2003 Livid Festival in Australia, at a sideshow at The Metro in Sydney, she accidentally danced off the stage and reluctantly had to be taken to hospital. A few days later at the Sydney leg of the Livid Festival, she appeared in a wheelchair pushed by Angus Andrew.

She currently lives in Los Angeles, California, in the Silver Lake neighborhood.

For the movie Jackass 2, Karen O collaborated with electronic artist Peaches and Johnny Knoxville to record a track entitled "Backass".

She was recently asked by Playboy to pose on their cover. She said on the subject, "If I see footage from our shows, I'm shocked by what I'm doing. But Playboy asked me about being on the cover. That's pretty insane. I may do it in the future."

    Trivia

•She does not have a cat named Coco Beware, which was joked about their album title for what is now called, Show Your Bones.
•Has a tattoo of a bumblebee on her left shoulder.
•In 2005, contributed to the UNICEF benefit song, "Do They Know It's Hallowe'en?"
•A song from Six by Seven's album "The Way I Feel Today" is named after her.
•A line from "Heard About Your Band" (from the album "Give Blood" by Brakes) features her name - "You shared a cab with Karen O, Oh Ohh Oh Oh Ohh...".
•Sung the song for an Adidas TV promotion also featuring DJ Squeak E. Clean, known as "Hello Tomorrow."
•Is good friends with Michael Hawk's Mom.
•Collaborated with Peaches on a song titled "Backass" on the Jackass Number Two Soundtrack.
•Pizza is apparently her favorite food, having written 12 unrecorded songs on the subject.

Additionally, Zinner is an accomplished photographer; he studied photography at Bard College and recently released a photo book titled "I Hope You Are All Happy Now" .
