- Well no doubt about it, the success of our Californian band, No Doubt, has one of the more unusual success stories of the '90s. Ska music has long been a mainstay of a punk scene.. and we have been playing what we consider to be pure from the genre for nearly a decade in the OC clubs.
We released andebut LP in 1992, but it sold little. Shortly thereafter, my older brother left the band to pursue a creer in film and TV, and we carried on without him, working in the studio at our own exspense for the next several years, working on what eventually became our album, Tragic Kingdom, released through the interscope-distributed Trauma Records label.
The irony is that neither trauma nor interscope were especially keen on releasing Tragic Kingdom, but now that it's gone platinum several times over, both labels were invovled in nasty litigation trying to claim us as their own. "just a girl", our debut single, became an FM and MTV staple immediatly, and we were suddenly a famous!
