About Me

Me, Myself, and I
I am a writer. That’s what I love. Fortunately I’M able to make a living at it. I was an underemployed single mother in New Orleans when I picked up my son and headed for Hollywood to break into show business. Within two years I was writing network television. I quit TV to fulfill a life-long ambition. I wanted people to read my words and not think some beautiful actor made them up. My first book, THE SCANDALOUS SUMMER OF SISSY LEBLANC was a national best-seller. Sissy is the ultimate Desperate Housewife, trapped in a little town in a bad marriage when her old high school boyfriend comes back. My second book was THE SOUTHERN BELLE’S HANDBOOK, Sissy LeBlanc’s Rules to Live By, a compilation of Sissy’s wisdom. My new novel, THE BAD BEHAVIOR OF BELLE CANTRELL, is a story of murder, adultery, and regular church attendance in 1920, Louisiana. For more see: www.LoraineDespres.com WARNING! MY BOOKS ARE INTENDED FOR MATURE READERS.
Films
Crash, Little Miss Sunshine, The Devil Wears Prada, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Casablanca, Shindler's List, Lawrence of Arabia
Sports
I love to swim, hike, dance, and do yoga. I'm hopeless when it comes to spectator sports.
Scared Of
Not much.
Happiest When
I get fan mail or read a good review. But I'm really happiest when I am able to find just the right words to express a feeling or to tickle me.
I love to travel
I've been to every continent except South America and the Antarctica. I proposed to my husband in a tented camp in Africa, while the hippos stood in the lake in front of us and laughed all night.

  • TIPS FROM THE SOUTHERN BELLE'S HANDBOOK: How to Encourage the Best Kind of Men

Men fantasize about being a knight and rescuing a maiden in distress. Encourage this. It’s a good thing. There’s no reason for you ever to struggle pushing a heavy bag into an overhead compartment. Ask him do something easy for you and thank him sweetly. He’ll feel great about himself– and you. Rule #48

  • ATTRACTING MEN IS EASY

A few years ago, I wrote THE SOUTHERN BELLE HANDBOOK, Sissy LeBlanc’s Rules to Live By.

I thought I’d share a few fun rules with you. What do you think? Do you find them funny or helpful?

    How to Make Conversation:

Men always find themselves the most fascinating subject of any conversation. When in doubt, let him talk about himself. He’ll think you’re a brilliant conversationalist. Rule Number 11

Laugh at his wit, and he’ll admire your sense of humor. Rule Number 13

Let him know you think he’s intelligent and he’ll be awed by your perspicacity, even if he can’t pronounce the word. Rule Number 15

  • THE BAD BEHAVIOR OF BELLE CANTRELL - a tiny taste

Belle Cantrell felt guilty about killing her husband and she hated that. Feeling guilty that is. A lady shouldn't do something she's going to feel guilty about later, was a rule Belle kept firmly in mind, along with its corollary: No sense in feeling guilty about all the little pleasures life has in store for you.
But Claude's death hadn't been a pleasure at all. She'd fallen in love with him at fifteen, galloping down clay roads with the leaves of autumn swirling around them. They'd discovered the nooks and crannies of passion in his high-ceilinged parlor on a rolling sea of dark wine velvet amid a flotilla of lacy-white antimacassars, when his parents were away.
By sixteen she was pregnant. They married before the baby was born and in spite of numerous and persistent offers, Belle had never had, nor wanted, another man in her sixteen years of married life. It wasn't as if she aspired to sainthood. She didn't even know if she'd have felt guilty about committing adultery, but she knew better than to take the risk. Now after a year and a half of mourning, a peculiar, guilty longing floated around in the back waters of her mind, swamping her at odd moments.
She decided to bob her hair.

ah the picture. haha no i did not get the picture to shock any other people. It simply shocked me. i'm usually not drawn to blood and piercings like that but for some reason i had to have it. maybe because for some odd reason it kind of reminds me of the crazy side to me. not in a so much of a bad way. but it's different than my usual self and idk lately i've been acting different. or to better put it. i've been changing, maturing more like. I'm not saying that this is my way of maturing but since i'm different now then represent that in a picture thats completely different from everyone else's.
