I am too scared to admit that I'm an adult, I love Indian music because my dad listened to it when I was a kid and I want to be him, I need a good night's sleep, I don't want to admit to my pretensions, I listen to music in the dark and imagine that I wrote it, I have anxiety attacks, I fear heights, taxis, planes, responsibility and the future but my biggest fear is the death of my parents, I lack confidence, I want my friends to forget about uni, religion, distance or my strange behaviour and be my friends again, I can't cry in real life but I cry at movies, I'm trying my best to stop smoking but can feel myself cracking, I want to stop thinking and talking about girls that I like so I can think and talk about things that really matter, I have spent all the money I had, I wear other people's clothes because I'm uncomfortable in my own skin and out of 250 Bebo "friends" about 20 truly mean the world to me.
I love the shit out of winter days where all the gardens are frosted over and the air is freezing and pure, I've made some unforgettable friends at university and I love them all, more than anything I want to get Gran'ma Ben off the ground and I think people will like us, I'm really excited about making films in the future with Conor and Hussain because I know that they're as serious about actually doing it as I am, for years I took my family for granted but now I realise that they're the most important and best thing in my life so I encourage you all to realise the same, I take the greatest pleasure in life from relatively simple things and I want everyone to experience them as well; this means everyone has to watch The Fountain, go to a concert and completely get lost in the music and dance, go somewhere (eg. holiday, gaeltacht, uni) where you can make new and amazing friends and go out to Armagh quarry in the summer.

First thing he did was take his table of equipment out onto the floor in front of the stage. His equipment is all outlined here:

Basically:

- a lighting rig consisting of a bright bulb, a dim bulb, a red bulb and a strobe light inside a fluorescent green skull

- a keyboard

- a small mixing board for adjusting sound effects on the keyboard

- a delay pedal

- a pitch shift harmoniser

- a vocoder (that’s hooked up to the keyboard)

- 2 mics

- a ring modulator

- a signal splitter (which doesn’t work)

- a signal generator

- and, of course, his iPod Shuffle.

This is all held to the table with fluorescent pink and green masking tape.

As soon as he’s ready to go he gets everyone in the room to come up from their seats and completely surround him, so there’re loads of people behind him up on the stage and loads in front and beside him. He gets the bar staff to turn off all the lights, so he’s completely in control of the lighting with the rig on his desk. He tells us all to close our eyes and kneel, slowly, to the ground. Then he tells us, still with eyes closed, to bring our hands slowly over our mouths. Then he tells us all to kiss our hands and I can hear people laughing already at the absurdity of the situation, but EVERYBODY is playing along! Then he tells us to open our eyes and blow that kiss at the first person we see. I blow mine at some guy. Then he bursts into ‘Okie Dokie’ and instantly everyone’s dancing, while his strobing green skull is flashing insanely. In between his songs he breathlessly talks to us about himself and his gear, not giving us the normal audience talk bullshit about “Great to be here, hello Belfast”, none of that. He tells insane stories.
He starts telling us to imagine that Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck have just walked in and thrown £2000 on the floor. Then they’re getting ready to squat and shit on the money. He tells us all to move out and form a massive circle to give them room. Once we’ve formed a massive circle he starts into another song and points at one of the guys in the circle. “You’re first,” he says, denoting the start of the dance-off. “Then you pick the next guy and so on.” So the music’s pumping and this guy starts dancing in the centre of all of us.

Then he picks an older-looking guy who dances with hands in pockets and gets a massive cheer. He then picks his mate to limit his embarrassment, then his mate picks me and I get out and dance my fucking ass off, not giving a shit that I look like a complete idiot. Because that’s what this gig is ABOUT! Dan sets the standard for not giving a fuck at acting insanely and we all follow!
After a couple more songs that play perfectly (including the beautiful Wham City that has everyone around him waving their hands pointed outward over his head), Dan begins to have misgivings about his iPod Shuffle. “That’s what you get when you go for the cheap-ass $40 model,” he says. He asks us what $40 is in Euros, and instantly realises when the crowd begin comically booing that we don’t use the Euro. “Fuck the Euro!” he shouts, and we all cheer. Then he says “No, I’m just kidding, I love the Euro,” and starts into his next song. As soon as the beat starts he begins to chant (as do we all);

One of the songs he played, the name of which I don’t know, started out relatively quiet, so he told us all to stand in a pose that sums up who we are and to hold it till the beat drops. “You’ll know when the beat drops.” He’s not wrong.
