Nineteen year-old Tom Felton has been acting since he was eight-years-old and has been singing since he was seven-years-old. He stumbled into the entertainment industry at the suggestion of an actress friend of the family who recognized his theatrical qualities. Felton met with an agent, and four weeks later, after auditioning with over four hundred other children, he landed an international commercial campaign and went abroad to work.
Tom Felton made his TV debut in the 1995 series of Bugs in which he played the role of James. This was followed by his first feature film appearance in 1997's The Borrowers in which he starred alongside John Goodman. More TV roles came along including, Second Sight, a TV drama about a police officer (played by Clive Owen) who is losing his sight whilst trying to track down a murder suspect. Tom Felton plays Thomas Ingham who is the main witness involved in the case.
In 1998, Felton was cast in his first feature role as Peagreen Clock in "The Borrowers" and in 1999, he portrayed Louis, the son of Jodie Foster's character in the British action feature "Anna and the King". Felton's breakout role came two years later as he was cast in the much anticipated feature "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" (2001), which prompted a return in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" (2002).
Tom Felton's big break came when he was cast to play Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone in 2001. Tom's character is the only son of Lucius Malfoy, and member of a "pure blood" wizarding family belonging to a wealthy, "elitist" class in the wizarding world. Draco attends Hogwarts School, and is the antagonist of main character Harry Potter. Draco finds pleasure in getting people he dislikes into any kind of trouble. He is seldom seen without his two friends, Crabbe and Goyle, who are much larger than him and function as his bodyguards.
When asked about how he feels playing a bad guy in the Harry Potter films, he said: "I think it's more fun, there are a lot of goodies in the film and not a lot of baddies, so I like to be in the baddie group."
