      A LEARNER driver might be thinking twice before getting behind the wheel again after crashing into an Aberdeen home.

      The motorist was taking a driving lesson when he crashed through metal railings on Springbank Terrace, down a small embankment and into the kitchen window of a flat.

      Shaun Peters, who shares the flat with two friends, said he could not believe it when he saw the Vauxhall Astra had smashed into his home on Tuesday night. Mr Peters, 20, said: “I was in my bedroom directly above the kitchen, and I saw a car’s headlights, heard a screeching noise and then felt a thump.

      “ I looked out of the window to see a car with its nose in the kitchen window, which took me by surprise.”

      Mr Peters, a shop assistant at the John Lewis department store in Aberdeen, said the kitchen window had been boarded up since the crash.

      He said: “Luckily there was no one in the kitchen when it happened, because they could have ended up with serious injuries.

      “There were bits of glass and car everywhere, it caused a lot of damage.”

      A police spokesman said: “At around 8.30pm on Tuesday, September 15, a learner driver under instruction was involved in an accident.

      “No one was injured and Springbank Terrace was briefly closed. It would appear that the vehicle did travel towards a house. Inquiries are ongoing.”
