Dead Cities Fanzine
Right, fuck it, Dead Cities it is, couldn't be arsed waiting for a reply.
Right, about 3 years ago i was gonna start a punk and metal fanzine based around the local and national scene. i figured i knew enough bands and people etc to get something good going.
in the end, i opted nae to go for it. lack of time more than anything because chaos was averaging around 5 gigs a month at one point and i was up to my eyeballs in it.
Anyway. I've been thinking of picking it up again, seeing as i know 10 times as much bands and people as i used to and now having the resources to go for it. It'll only be punk rock though and i'm looking to initially focus on scotland to start with, before gradually spreading south
Basically i'm gonna be looking for contributions of anything. All bollocks will be considered. We're gonna be looking for interviews, articles, gig reviews, album reviews, rants, moans.
I've already a few interviews lined up, few article ideas and a few gig and album reviews in mind. Little Chris and Jim Intimidation are already up for contributing and i'm looking for more people. Someone who doesn't waffle a ton of shit would be nice, but like i said, i'll consider EVERYTHING.
There's a few things i want to have in this fanzine that others sometimes don't do.
1) I want the fanzine to contain a gig section, with a basic text system, no pics of gig posters on those pages, just text. every band treated equal.
2) I want a classifieds section. Anyone wanting to sell a guitar, amp, cd's, records etc can send in their details and we'll publish it. However i want them as relevant as possible by print day.
3) fanzine to be printed on A3 paper, folded in half to make an A4 fanzine. A Minimum of 24 pages (6 A3 sheets front and back). If we do a mini issue for some reason, it'll be done on A4 paper and folded in A5.
4) Packing! I want to completely stuff this fanzine. I want people to be reading it a year later and still finding shit they didn't see before. I'm also all up for putting artwork (mostly drawings, but may consider other forms) into the zine.
5) Political rants would be nice, but try to stick to humour rather that preaching. we've all been preached at. If you shout at someone they won't listen and there's no point shouting in someone who supports you. Humour is an effective way to include your supporters, as well as make other people see what you believe.
6) Casualties new album is shite, don't get it. Sorry but just finished listening and it's that bad.
7) First line of business, come up wee a number 7.....
Poetry works, but decent stuff, none of yer 'my bleeding soul' bollocks.
9) head to head section, we get 2 known people of zee pooonk rock scene and ask them a few of the same questions, stupid shit, see what happens.

Cramond Island - Island of Punk 2009
Right, Island of Punk 2009 is this Saturday, and we need to find out who's actually coming and going.
Now, as luck would have it, everything (for some of us at least) seems to be all happening on the same day. JJ and I have his brother's stagger on the same night, Tash and Vo are doing their annual cowboy party and i've been invited for a blow out in peterhead wee JJ and his work mates.
So on that note, we will have something to do if it falls through, but we need to get organized and decide what we're doing ASAP.
The plan is....
Leave Aberdeen on the Megabus for Edinburgh.
Departs - 6.35am / Arrives - 9.50am
Jump on one of the following buses to Cramond.
Departs - 10.07am / Arrives - 10.39am
Departs - 10.22am / Arrives - 10.56am
Now Cramond Island is about a 10-15 minute walk, maybe a little more. It is an island off the coast of Edinburgh and you can only walk to it at low tide. You will be stuck there until the tide is high and then low again. Meaning all us punk rockers and crusties will be the only ones of the island.
The tide in the morning is at it's lowest at 9.54am and there's around a 1 1/2 hour to 2 hour gap each way, that we're still able to get onto the island. Hence all the must do scheduling.
The tide will then come down again at 9.59pm, again and hour and a half to 2 hour gap each way, in which we will still be able to cross.
There are buses running until 11.30pm from Cramond back into Edinburgh, however we will not have anywhere to go until our train back to Aberdeen at 9.10am on the Sunday. Sadly, the first bus on the Sunday morning from Cramond to Edinburgh is not until 9.35am, therefore we must travel back to Edinburgh that night.
So, we need to get on one of these buses...
Departs - 10.22pm / Arrives - 10.44pm
Departs - 10.52pm / Arrives - 11.14pm
Departs - 11.17pm / Arrives - 11.37pm
Departs - 11.47pm / Arrives - 00.07am
Our Train would leave Edinburgh's Waverley Station at 9.10am and arrive back in Aberdeen at 11.47am
Quicker we get this booked, the better the price, because the tickets prices for megabus and the train will go up gradually over time. Lothian buses are always very cheap however.
In total for travel we're looking at £25 each. The gig on the island is free, however donations for bands is appreciated as some have travelled. This is a purley DIY event and would be great for us to travel down too. I need confirmation from people though.7 Comments 95 days
