  • I am bored.....Blogs are fun

    01. You're in the hospital, which four people would be most likely to come to visit you?
If I'm in Christchurch, I would say my cousins and auntie. Cos thats who came to visit me when I was in hospital last year. If I was in Nelson I would say my Mum and brother.

    02. If alcohol were banned, what would your reaction be?
Kinda pissed in the sense there would be nothing to blame when you do/say something stupid but at the same time it wouldnt bother me hugely
. I would rather watch other peoples reactiona

    03. If you could go anywhere right now, where would you go?
As always, Nelson. And then somewhere really hot

    04. Do you believe world peace is possible?
Its getting to the stage where I think no. But if everyone stopped being dicks, then yes

    05. I'm a genie. Name your wish?
    Definitely never ending wishes

    06. Name one thing about the opposite sex that can automatically turn you off?
being hassled, SOME guys have the inability just to sit and talk, they always have to be doing something

    07. Name one thing about the opposite sex that automatically turns you on?
When they can make you laugh without even trying

    08. Speaking of sex, what did you think about Brokeback Mountain?
Fantastic film, I own it. However, while I thought Heath Ledger's performance was good I thought it was a bit overrated

    09. What are you obsessive about?
Harry Potter as everyone knows. Then movies in general

    10. Leatherface is in the kitchen. what do you do?
Depends if she's in a good mood or not

    11. Do people underestimate you?
Yeah sometimes. My biggest one recently was last year in uni when I got real good marks and people were like "damn, you're smart!" I felt cool, sorry to brag

    12. When you're in a bad mood, what will always put you in a better mood?
Watching good movies, anything to do with Harry Potter. Talking to Mandy and we are both pissed off which tends to lead to hilarious antics

    13. Honestly, do you talk about Bebo in real life?
Mandy always says how lame it is, but she secretly loves it as whenever she's here, she gets me to go on so she can look at other peoples profiles

    15. What do you hope to have accomplished by the end of the year?
    Finishing second year at uni

    16. Do you believe minimum wage should be raised?
Yes, now that the price is going up on everything like petrol and food

    17. What is the background on your computer?
I'm such a geek, I havent changed my background since I got my laptop so its still the acer logo

    18. Do you have any really crazy relatives?
I'd say all of them are a bit crazy. Probably the worst is Nick, my cousin who has an obsession with all parts of the human anatomy who likes to talk about them as loud as possible in public which is hilarious

    19. Pretend you've had 15 beers. Describe what you would be doing.
I dont drink beer, but I'm guessing sleeping

    20. Does everyone in your life know the real you?
I would say my Mum cos I talk to her about pretty much everything. And I dont feel the need to pussyfoot round her like I do with others

    21. Last thing you said?
I think it was something like 'bye' to my mum on the phone

    22. What is the most ridiculous fear you have?
My biggest fear is spiders, dont know whether that is ridiculous.

    23. Who was the last person to hug you?
    Probably Mandy

    24. When is the last time you ate peanut butter and jelly?
    In the holidays in Nelson

    25. When did you last have a home-cooked meal?
Well I cooked for myself last night. But if it was actually at home, then the last sunday in the holidays

    26. Have you ever gotten naked at a party?
No, I always keep my clothes on

    28. Are you named after a grandparent?
    No

    29. Does someone love you?
This question is stupid, isnt everyone loved by at least someone?

    31. How do you feel RIGHT now?
    Hungry and tired

    32. Have you driven anywhere today?
    No

    33. Whats your hair like?
I'm always annoyed with my hair. But its reasonable long and d

  • Analysis of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Okay, I would like to start off my saying that no one is more disgusted than I am with myself in that it has taken me nearly 3 months to write my analysis/review of DH. Especially that since in my blog entry below I said that I would write it in "coming weeks"!!!! what a slacker....believe me, I am furious
Having just recently finished reading the book fully for the 2nd time, I think its time to write my analysis of it....as I look at my notes (yes, I took notes while reading) a lot of it is critical, mainly just due to my questions or confusions about certain aspects. I will just say, once and for all, this is an AWESOME book and was definitely one of my favourites of the series and the reason I make criticisms is because everything else about the book rocks, but you will notice that I point out a lot of my favourite details of the book also.
I will try and write this chronologically (if that is the right word to use here?) that is, going through the book from start to finish

    - The Epigraphs - man, this is serious stuff. epigraphs??? these only proceed serious literature! which of course, harry potter is! reading these, I practically had a heart attack. while the first one is very lovely in that its praising the children, etc but the second one is about death. if jk has used this death epigraph, I assumed that it would mean a lot of death in this book, especially for one main character, who at this stage, I had predicted would die
    - When Harry was packing up his stuff at the Dursleys, this struck me as very odd. He seemed to be talking of NOT RETURNING to hogwarts. at the end of the 6th book he mentioned that he might not come back which I took with a grain of salt because, how could the series be if they werent at school!? this was most shocking to me, but now seems logical as they couldnt have gone back to hogwarts anyway, seeing as how they were wanted by the ministry, snatchers, death eaters and voldemort so to be stationed at hogwarts, they wouldnt have even got there because of the death eaters constantly following them so to be able to defeat the horcruxes, it was the only reasonable answer
    - I especially liked all the stuff bout dumbledore and his past and I myself for one, especially wanted to know what dumbledore saw in the mirror of erised. this bugged me immensely since the first time I read the first book because his answer of himself holding a pair of socks was, while very fine, ridiculous and I desperately find out
    - The Dursleys - mmmm yeah....I dont quite know about them, it seemed very weird to me that they were packed off with and probably never seen or heard from again, for harry anyway. I also didnt like the way dudley all of a sudden was all nice to harry, it just seemed too weird
    - Hedwig's death - the first death of the book. this is one of my biggest issues with the book. the death itself makes sense as they couldnt have travelled round with her as she'd attract too much attention but what pissed me off was how harry barely seemed phased by it. hello? hedwig was his one time, all time companion! she has been with him from the start! I think that there was only a couple of paragraphs in the book where harry laments and then hes moved on to the next thing!
    - Tonk's parents - They pissed me off also, it just seemed weird to introduce these new characters this late in the story. they werent major so jk probably only introduced them for literary purposes but they seemed a waste of time
    - Moody's death - again, this was very quick, similar to Hedwig's death. Moody is the man! He is one of the essential characters if the 4th book (admittedly, its an imposter but its still him) and he is such the dude in the order!
    - Harry's relationship with Ginny - this, dont get me wrong, is great. theyre very well suited but what annoyed me here was how at the end of the 6th one, he'd made the choice to break up with her! again, for her own good, most noble, but then at the start of the 7th one, he spends mos

  • The ending of Harry Potter

Okay. I'm sure we all know that Harry Potter came to a close about 2 and a half weeks ago. This is particularly significant for me as for the last 5 and a half years, my life has (I won't say revolved around cos that is a bit too extreme) but Harry Potter has had a HUGE impact on me and been a large part of my life.
My thoughts of Harry Potter before I saw the first movie was mainly that it was something for geeks and nerds, largely because the people who liked the books in my class were what the rest of us considered to be that type of person. I remember in form 1, my teacher read us the first book and I remember being so eternally bored (mainly because I have terrible listening comprehension) but that the whole story seemed so weird - kids going to a wizarding school, so many weird names, and I couldnt keep track of what was going on. After we read it we had this big study on it where we had to do all this different type of activities to do with HP. Nowadays, I would pass out at the opportunity to do such things but I remember hating it.
My mum loves reminding me of the story about this episode at school where I came home and said, "man, we're reading this boring book at school and it really sucks, all the nerds like it" she asked "what's it called?" "something like, harry potter" I scoffed. Mum thinks this is hilarious considering I completely changed my mind about it nearly 2 years later.
When the first movie came out, I thought I would go and see it, just so I could see why everyone was so fascinating with HP. I went and it turned out to be so great that I completely changed my attitude about it. Now, I realise that a number of people hated the first few movies(some of you still hate then! grrr) but seriously, as far as book adaptations go, they are excellent. The next day I went out and began reading the Prisoner of Azkaban. I didnt start with the first book because I figured I had just seen the movie and the library didnt have the second one. If I remember correctly, I finished it within 3 days. Still to this day, the Prisoner of Azkaban remains my favourite book (although it may be overtaken by the Deathly Hallows) but the whole plot of the third book is so interesting and I thought the whole Sirius being good thing was the coolest twist I had ever heard. The next week I managed to get my hands hold of the 2nd book and the 4th book, both of which I read within about 5 days. They were captivating and I remember being confused as to why I couldnt find a 5th HP book (at the time, I had no computer and really had no idea about the series as a whole).
I've been accused over the years of not being a "true HP fan" because I hadnt read the books before I saw the movies and many say that those who like the movies, dont appreciate the books. This, I suppose is true, but to me, the movies introduced me to the books, and I think I appreciated the books more after I had seen the films because I have terriblly bad visualisation skills so it was all there for me (I realise that this is one of the most appealing aspects of books as you can imagine it all for yourself but I was so dumb, I needed to have some sort of idea of what I was reading about). Still many say to me, you arent a real HP fan because I love the movies which some argue aren't good enough to do justice to the books. I do love the movies, sometimes I think I do love them more but it only takes me a second to realise that the movies wouldnt be there without the books. And while the movies are great, the books have an undeniable spirit that cannot be translated into any type of production. And the movies are good, obviously they cut things out because otherwise, if they stck exactly to the book, the movie would be 14 hours long. I would still go and see it as would many others but I suppose they have to make a film version which means editing out bits and pieces.
After I read the first four books,I began to read more and more about HP and what could possibly be ha

Haha yeah, discussing the weather is such an old person stereotype, but really, the weather affects us all the same, in fact, seeing as we are probably more active and spend more time outdoors than the beloved OAPs it probably affects us more, and I therefore condemn the stereotype that makes us feel that the weather is something of a taboo subject until we are old enough to get a low-fare bus pass.

In less revolutionary conversation, I have an exam on Saturday (PANIC! - but not really, I am resembling a cucumber atm), one next Wednesday, then one on the 8th Nov (now I'm just annoyed).

So I'll be back in Nelson soon after the 8th I imagine. Looking forward to it :)

And yeah that hammering you saw welly get on the news was pretty epic. Was lying in bed and the walls of our house were like swaying lol. was 60% sure they were gonna go down. Goes to show that even the best of us are wrong sometimes :P

Hehe yeah fair enough on the comments front :P
Bebo certainly has become uncool lol, I dunno why, it's the same as it ever was lol, but i guess Facebook is a tad more sophisticated and mature lol. No Sonic the Hedgehog skins over there :P
Aww it's a shame you shan;t be joining us up here! Would have been super cool, but hopefully we'll still see you lots :) And you're right, stuff is going mega fast these days, it's pretty scary lol.
Hehe, yeah, rain does ruin the image, but it's so rare in Nelson, and even when it does it somehow doesn't dampen the spirits as much as it does here or in Christchurch. I think it's because the big cities are way greyer and stuff, wheras Nelson looks all lush and green when it rains. I heart Nelson :D
Yay, had my last tutorial of the year today :) Two weeks, that sucks, when do you finish exams though?

Ah sorry it has almost been a week since your comment! Crikey :S I'm fully not hardcore on bebo anymore lol.
Yay for flatting next year, does that mean you're staying in Christchurch though? :(
Hehe gotta love Nelson's ridiculous ignorance of the weather in the rest of the country, even while it's super windy and raining and miserable here you can pretty much guarantee that Nelson's just sat out on the beach on it's deckchair getting a nice tan with an ice cold glass of Coca Cola. Ah... the good life.
Hehe yeah slides are always super good fun, we used to go to a place in England called Water World, it was honestly the most awesome water park ever, they had such cool flumes and stuff there, you should check it out if you're ever in England :)
Last week of classes starts tomorrow: huzzah!

Erm yepski we'll be leaving our current flat, gonna downsize to a three person one with just me, Luke and Holly which will be cool. Erm at the moment we are on the lookout for a new place, be it available from mid-november or february or whatever. Ideally we won't have to pay over summer but if it means getting a good place it might be worth it.
But will definitely be in Nelson for most of the summer :)
Jealous that you're there atm :D I mess good old Nelson!
Yeah hanmer is pretty great, have to admit I didn't go on the hydroslide when we went there lol, was it worth the $5?

Lol I am still with Bec indeed happily :) And as for Luke, he does not have any young females on the go at the moment. How about yourself? Any young females on the go? Or young males for that matter? :P
Ah gutted about your weather. Ours is still patchy, it's a very miserable one today.
Wow so you have a super sweet holiday between the end of term and your exams, that's pretty awesome. I'm not sure what I'll be doing yet. If grab-a-seat flights come up at the right moment I may nip back in between but will probably end up staying here. Am hoping to come back as soon after exams as poss though to start work but will depend on finding a flat or whatnot.
Yay for Hanmer too, that's pretty sweet that you guys can just nip up there for the weekend :D Yoy hit up the hot springs I assume? Man Hanmer is great. And they have a sweet mini golf course too :)

Erm Alton Towers is near the village of Alton which is a little way from Shrewsbury, maybe 2 hours drive i think.
Erm, as for gossip and stuff... not a huge deal I don't think, did you know Tom and Hillz are back together? No bitch-calling though I'm afraid.
Yeah saw Annelise which was nice, haven't seen her to talk to properly before then in a while. Hehe.
Yeah skiing is awesome :) I think I'm ok :P And I wouldn't say I'm good at everything. I have to settle for most things I think. lol. see I'm rubbish at modesty. Actually I'm just joking, I'm hopeless at lots of things.
Ah yes, chairlift stories, you shall have to ask me for mine when I see you, I feel it would be wasted over bebo, so you'll have to wait in suspense :P

Lol well slowly but surely our weather is picking up, but we do have the odd collapse back into miserbaleness but I'm hoping these stop soon as the waterproof integrity of my shoes has been completely vanquished now, which makes wet days not so much fun.
Alton Towers is a majorly awesome theme park in England that we used to go to! It is so frickin' cool, you should check out the wiki page or something, they have some fan-fuckin-tastic rides :D
Don't worry about the poster :P Would have been cool but i fully understand and posters aren't the easiest things to translocate between countries anyway :)
I love skiing, I don;t know if I'm techincally any good escept I was in the highest ability group the second time we went with the school for a week in England, and I don't fall over much :) I manage anyway :P
Chair lifts are awesome though! But they took the rainbow one away apparently (I'd never been before) and now it's a crappy T-Bar :(

I can't believe you didn't get me that poster! :P Would have been epically cool! How much was it?! and what was it like?
But yeah... was weird not seeing you in Nelson, but I was fairly busy, had a bit of work to do and people to hang with and skiing the one day was most excellent, but I shall indeed look forward to seeing you in summer :) have you decided whether you'll be gracing wellington with your presence next year yet?
