my name is kevin purdie and i am part of a wrestling company in scotland called wrestlezone.
I am emailing you in response to your production that was shown last night on the bbc as i feel it was not researched in anyway at all. wrestling in this country is on the rise as the companies such as wrestlezone ,scottish wrestling entertainment, premier british wrestling, british championship wrestling and the scottish wrestling alliance have been pulling crowds of over 200 fans for years. i feel dissapointed that your company took it upon themselves to showcase wrestling in such a way as it was last night. i personally have wrestled in front of over 450+ people in fraserburgh and countless other sold out shows. At the end of august i will be part of hell for lycra 6 at the perth concert hall ( which is similar to the caird hall shown last night that " wouldn't put wrestling on again") to which 250 tickets have already been sold.
The production itself was a good one i just feel it could of been on ( or at least mentioned ) other wrestling companies and their wrestlers that carry them selves with far more professionalism when it companies to the kwa. we have superior posters, advertising, wrestlers, rings, announcers and venues.
in short i would appreciate a response to this email as i feel there is a follow up potential in the story of pro wrestling in scotland.

Kongo Kev's 2008 In Review

2008 was a very special year for me as it marked the year I broke away from where I was to throw myself in to something untried, untested, something everyone said would fail and that I was making a mistake being a part of WRESTLEZONE. Also me and my wonderful fiancé moved flat again and now stay in the nice end of Kirkcaldy.

January was a scary time as we had our first wrestling themed kids birthday party to get through. We did'nt know how the kids would react to what we had planned. However the party went off with out a hitch and stew and me wrestled the first of many, many matches that year. Another important part of January was the joining up of wrestlezone and swe. Myself and J Hazard (josh) had been talking through bebo for a while and Dave low (founder and owner of swe) phoned stew to set up a training seminar and the rest was history. Most of the swe guys came through and we had an awesome session that kicked of many of the close friendships I hold dear to me today.
We also had a group of guys that stew had known for years in Aberdeen come down to start the professional wrestling training. These guys care about wrestling so much and it is an honour to be training them. They took to the training so quickly they fast became people we know could handle what we would be doing.

This also brought about my first match of the year as an independent wrestler as Dave asked me to be a part of an swe show in Aberdeen. It was a great experience going through meeting guys like claymore and tartan terror for the first time. I worked Dave and terror in a triple threat match that night. It was a good match I felt however I don’t usually do matches purely of the cuff I like to have an Idea of at least the finish but still I enjoyed it very much.

The next month I felt wrestlezone was getting into its stride as far as parties were concerned, more and more were getting booked and the formula for each one was getting better and more efficient. We also had an swe show in kirkton, Dundee, which was cool, me and stu had our 1st match for swe and it went great, crowd were fantastic.

Then April came around and this was go time. We had booked our first show at the Windsor hotel and it was a scary thing to be doing as we didn’t know if they guys we had could handle a show yet but risking stuff is part of the fun I think. Anyway we had a solid card followed by a 20 man royal rumble to decide the first wrestlezone world champion. Now the decision stew and Stacey made to put the belt on myself was for a few reasons. I had left w3l for them , I had put everything I had into making wrestlezone successful and there wasn’t many people they felt could carry the strap at that point. I was just honoured that they thought that much of me to do it. So I was entrant number 2 with Chaz phoenix being number 1. We started of well got the crowd into the over the top rope aspect of the match… then my knee popped from underneath. They say when wrestling and you get injured you know when its bad, this was bad every time I tried to put any pressure of do any kind of twisting motion it popped, so I made the quite foolish decision to stay in and work it to the end and let me tell you I paid for it dearly. But I made it with the help of everyone involved who could see from the backstage monitor that I was hurt and everyone took such care of me. Especially Chaz who took heat away from people noticing I was injured. Anway yours truly did win the championship and it felt amazing and I thank everyone involved in that night for making it such a good experience.

In may I got the opportunity to book our show at the Victoria hotel, now I personally feel that show was a good one, certain people might not of been happy with their performances that night I felt it was a solidly booked card with some good twists and turns. And I put j hazard in a mask, which to me is hilarious as one of my fondest memories of j is him walking pas
