~ Nicollette Sheridan, who plays Edie Britt, originally auditioned for the role of Bree but was told she would be better as Edie and Marcia Cross auditioned for the role of Mary Alice but ended up playing the role of Bree ~

~ The role of Susan Mayer was offered to Courtney Cox who played Monica in Friends, but she couldn't take it because she was pregnant. It was also offered to Heather Locklear, Mary-Louise Parker and Calista Flockhart but the role eventually went to Teri Hatcher who has won a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award for playing Susan. ~

~ The show has won many awards including Emmy's, Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards and a People's Choice Award ~

~ Kiersten Warren, who played Nora Huntington, knew her character was going to die from the moment she auditioned for the role. ~

~ In the season one episode, 'Come in, Stranger', Teri Hatcher, who plays Susan, cracked a rib in the scene where she falls on a wedding cake however insisted that filming of the epiosode continued ~

~ Although Susan and Edie hate each other in the TV show, They are great friends in real life and Nicollette Sheridan even takes Teri Hatcher's daughter horse riding ~

~ Felicity Huffman who plays Lynette was nominated for an Oscar in 2006 for her role in Transamerica. When she gave an interview on the red carpet she was suprised by the cast of Desperate Housewives who had left her a video message congratulating her on her achievments. ~

~ The character Edie Britt was orginally called Evie McCall and was supposed to have a very small role in the show but she became so popular with viewers she became one of the leading women ~

~ The character of Mary Alice Yong was orignally called Mary Alice Scott and was going to be played by an actress named Sheryl Lee ~

~ Dana Delany auditioned for the role of Bree and was offered the part. After thinking about it, she declined the role. She went on to play Katherine Mayfair ~
