Biog
Dubliners naturally wonder where Martelo came from. How does a band this strong, melodic, and powerful suddenly sizzle up out of the Liffey? Originating as school friends, Alan de Bromhead, Carl McEvoy and Ben O'Loughlin, together with original band-mate Jonathan Shallow formed 'Blue Side Down.' Al and Carl decided to turn their back on their classical training to hone their guitar skills. Along with Ben on the Bass and drummer Jonathan, they set to writing and gigging around Dublin (The Sugar Club, Crawdaddy, The Village, Temple Bar Music Centre and Whelans.) During this time they caught the eyes of producer Ken Kiernan (Clannad, The Police, etc.). Shortly after completing their debut recordings with Ken, "Learning Curves" the lads learnt that Jonathan, who had been studying to pass the bar exam, had made the big decision to go to America. In 2007, after an intense year of writing, and name change to 'Martelo', the lads along with new drummer Jason Duffy (The Corrs, Declan O'Rourke, Sharon Shannon) and producer Ken Kiernan headed to Westland Studios. With Debbie Smith engineering, and Anto Drennan (Genesis, The Corrs, Clannad) coaching Carl's guitar parts, eight well-built songs were laid down, in two rather long days. 2008 is set to be a busy year for the lads releasing their debut ablum 'Charlie's Book of Big Ideas.'0 Comments 763 days
