No, really, I do.
Okay, Facebook has its charms: better status updates, communal conversations, arguably better layout, whatever that Farmville thing is, I know. I get it. I'm not saying it's wrong.
But whatever happened to colours other than blue and white? Or poorly-designed skins advertising our favourite song lyrics, films, or song lyrics misspelled over screengrabs from films (I'm looking at you, Twilight fans)?
What happened to Bebo blogs? And navigable photo sections instead of that weird thing where your profile photos are in a separate album?
What happened to profile-contained quizzes, and polls, and friend lists that you were controversially allowed to organise?
Whatever happened to the idea of a webpage that actually looks kind of good, and not just exactly the same as every other webpage on the site?
That's what I want to know, fellow social network users. That's all.

And we stood there, all aching limbs and shivering shoulders and rainwater dripping down our necks and we loved him too.
He also said we were beautiful.
He was standing right next to Jared at the time.

The Leaving
A poem of good wishes to all my fellow students commencing their Leaving (and Junior, but especially Leaving) Cert examinations on the morrow. Let's keep calm and carry on.
The Leaving
This consciousness – this heightened ache
of suncream-scented, sun-damp limbs,
of foolscap pages littered though the house
and stacks of shiny-covered books –
will dull like ornaments collecting dust,
like our lives in these home places clicking faintly to a close.

Inauguration Day: A Poem
Decided to get topical on all y'alls and write a poem about history, which in this case happened today.
Women Obscure in Their Labour
The inauguration comes
one month before my eighteenth birthday
along with day-late prickling of cramps.
My mother is in the city
and the girls from school sign out
to apply for university before the deadline.
At home, I switch the television on and
watch thousands of tiny flags blur into pink
and my best friend texts me:
“things are changing today”.
This is not a love poem
unless it is for her, or for myself,
for the trumpet players, flag-wavers
swaddled in coats and badges
for Nancy, Hillary and Michelle
for those who watch this in London
dreaming of home and for those who
watch at home, dreaming of Washington
for this flush restless fertility
which is both mine and not mine
or somehow shared because in this
hope – and there is hope –
we all are bound together, each to each.
