- Just returning from traveling twice around the world to set up their new album, JET are primed for the global release of their third studio album, Shaka Rock. The new album closes the gap between the raw roots of Get Born and the grace and melody of Shine On which together went on to make JET an international band of style and substance. After four million albums sold worldwide and four Top Ten Modern Rock and Rock hits, the authentic Aussie rockers have returned to form with an album that parallels their smash, Get Born.
Shaka Rock, which was noted by SPIN as “stuffed with swaggering, anthemic rock,” and praised as “raucous rock n’ roll” by Billboard, was recently launched in the U.S. with a performance of “She’s A Genius” on the same day of its release on the Late Show with David Letterman, followed by a performance of “Black Hearts (On Fire)” six days later on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
The single, “She’s a Genius,” is lighting up at radio across the globe. It is in the Top 20 at multiple rock formats in the US, Top 5 at Active Rock in Canada and Top 10 at Alternative, Top 5 on the Japanese International Airplay chart, and vaulted to #12 on the overall Australian airplay chart this week. And now, the single has been tapped for a sexy new television ad for “Body by Victoria” featuring top super models Marisa Miller, Alessandra Ambrosio, Emanuela de Paula and Lindsay Ellingson. The tongue in cheek song lends itself perfectly to the fun and sexy themes of one of the world’s hottest brands.
With their previous releases — 2003’s Get Born and 2006’s Shine On — JET broke out of their native Australia and established themselves as a multi-platinum, international success story. JET found near-instant success in the wake their debut album, 2003’s “Get Born,” which spawned the hit singles “Cold Hard Bitch” and “Are You Gonna Be My Girl,” the latter of which was used in one of the original iPod commercials. The Cesters admit their sudden, explosive rise to fame left them feeling dazed.
The band’s follow-up, Shine On, was marred by the death of Chris and Nic’s father, who inspired the title track. Chris describes the time surrounding Shine On as “a black hole.” After taking time off and with both tragedy and triumph behind them, the band set out to make Shaka Rock with a healthier outlook and nothing to lose. Shaka Rock is JET’s first offering in three years.
Now, the brothers -- along with guitarist Cameron Muncey and bass player Mark Wilson -- are confident that they’re back at the height of their creativity with their recently released third album.
JET is back, and the world has taken notice.
