My main love in life (apart from my beautiful gf of course) is music . I am a resident dj/promoter for a club night called Beatworx which was ran for 2 years in Belfast (this project is currently on hold to the new year) ** To hear the latest underground sounds and dj"s look out for Beatworx, coming to a town and city near you** Im always looking for new and exciting ways of djing and all things to do with electronic music. I hope the passion i feel for the music i play shows to the people who are listening. Musically my sets range from warm up house to full on techno.

      Having started his DJ career at the tender age of 16, Neal or Smiley as he is affectionately known was always focused on all things musical. Neal’s first love of electronic music was in the early ninety’s while playing Hardcore/Happy Hardcore on a set of Belt Drive turntables. This started a 10 year love affair with dance music where buying new music was all that mattered. As Neal got older his tastes developed through lots of different guises of electronic music. This ranged from Hardcore, Trance, Progressive house, House, Funky House, Breakbeat, Electro and Techno.

      Neal says “My musical style has changed throughout the years and that has developed me as an artist. Its important to be open minded to music and it was a case of the music finding me rather than me finding the music”

      Neal’s first gig was toward the late 90’s where he played at a night in Ballycastle alongside Locally known Gerard C. His hunger for Djing live increased and it wasn’t long before Neal had played various venues and club nights across Northern Ireland. These gigs included:

      Mirage @ The Royal, Ballycastle
      Kitch @ Traks, Portrush
      Filter @ The Slemish, Ballymena
      Beatscience @ The Anchor, Portstewart
      Orpheus, Belfast
      Digifunk @ The Gallery, Lderry
      Aul Kellys. Ballymoney

      Having secured the experience of these gigs at an early age Neal travelled to Ibiza in early noughtys where he played in some dj competitions (One of which judged by Ibiza legend Brandon Block) and played in a warm up set in Playa D’Bossa in a pre club bar called Tantra.

      Whilst still playing at every house party, illegal rave or warehouse party possible Neal wanted to develop his musical skill into new technology. In 2006 Neal enrolled in course in Ableton, a music programme devoleped for djing and production. At this course Neal met Gary Blair and Tim Gates who were equally enthusiastic about electronic music.

      After many long conversations about the music scene, Neal, Gary and Tim decided to bring a breath of fresh air to the music scene in Belfast. They were soon joined by 4th DJ Simon Smyth and the club night Beatworx was born. With the 4 resident djs in place Beatworx was started in June 06 in The Edge Bar, Belfast. The aim was to provide the freshest music from the best djs globally and locally in an friendly care free atmosphere. With the rise of Beatworx Neal secured more high profile gigs in 2007. These include:

      Lush! Portrush 19th May 07 with: Mickey Slim, Col Hamilton, Discount Rhinos and Neal Colgan
      Lush! Portrush 8th September 07 – Made in Norn Iron with Chris Cargo, Pyscatron and Neal Colgan
      Surge @ The Slemish, Ballymena with: Gary Moore

      Neal is considered as one of the most talented Dj’s in Northern Ireland and is well respected within the local scene. Over the years Neal has played alongside the following top jocks: Paolo Mojo, Demi, Mickey Slim, Col Hamilton, Psycatron, Chris Cargo, Timmy Stewart, The Japanese Popstars, Fonzerelli, Discount Rhinos, Jordan X, Rik Parkinson, Gary Dickenson, Danny Graham, Stephen Porter, Gerard C, Ben Breslin, Ronan Scullion, Dibby Dougherty and Gary Moore.

      Neal is going from strength to strength with his passion and ambition for music bursting out in his energetic sets. If 2007 is anything to go by, 2008 will be an even more exciting year for Neal ‘Smiley’ Colgan. Watch this space

      tbh wasnt impressed with fanculli on sat night, then again it wasnt lush so he was never gonna play that sorta set. really interested in seeing quivver got slapped with a 200 notes car servicing bill today so thats gonna calm the jets a bit lol. not much new with me working away, there's gotta be an easier way that this though, i just havent found it yet lol
