MAKE TRADE FAIR ! ! ! ! !
TRINITY LABOUR CALLS FOR TRINITY COLLEGE TO INVEST 0.7% OF RESEARCH PROFITS IN DEVELOPMENT AID
Trinity Labour give their full support to the college authorities to make Trinity College Dublin a Fair Trade Campus. Today on Global White Band Day, Trinity Labour Chair, Christina McSorley will launch a Petition calling for 'Making Trade Fair'.
Speaking before the Make Trade Fair Petition launch, Ms. McSorley commented, "Today marks the 4th Global White Band Day and we are calling for real and effective action on Making Trade Fair. Trinity Labour welcomes the progressive move of our college in working toward making the campus a Fair Trade Zone. We ask that other universities follow Trinity's lead and implement similar plans to become Fair Trade campuses.
"We support the establishment of a new contract to supply college outlets with Fair Trade products but wish the college to go further and ensure that all college purchases comply with the Fair Trade criteria.
"Further we call for Trinity College to earmark that as a minimum 0.7% of all profits earned from campus companies or research be allocated for investment in Poverty prevention schemes and development aid, incorporating such measures in any patients developed by Research Students in Trinity."
