- We are a group of young musicians from Kirkwall Grammar School in Orkney aged 14-18 who play modern and traditional music, along with our own compositions, led by Douglas Montgomery.
The band is made up of flock of fiddles, a guitar here and there, a bass guitar, a clarsach, a bodhran, a piano/keyboard, a mandolin and a banjo, which creates our own unique gutsy sound.
Over the years we have gained a good reputation, having shared our music as far afield as mainland Scotland, the 'Hup and Canada, as well as releasing two CDs and a DVD - 'Hadhirgaan', 'Hadhirgaan - Keep It Up' and 'Gaan Tae The Nor Wast'
.
Originally started in 1998/99, Hadhirgaan is in its third or fourth generation, with former members having gone to university and moved on elsewhere and new members joining each year.

Past Tours
December 2004
Scottish Trad Music Awards 04, Edinburgh
In one of our first major performances we played for a highly acclaimed audience which included some of the best Scottish musicians around today.
June 2005
Gaan Tae Da Nor Wast - Canada Tour 05
We toured, Winnipeg, Calgary and Regina along with the Kirkwall Grammar School Thearte Company to put on our performance of 'Gaan Tae Da Nor Wast' (Going to the north west), a musical and dramatical insight into the lives of some famous orcadians, focusing on the Hudson's Bay Company. Our show in Calgary was professionaly filmed and will be released on DVD shortly. We also visited Banff, Moose Jaw and Toronto. We did a lot of sight-seeing, and had a great time!
January 2006
Celtic Connections 06, Glasgow
We visited one of the most famous folk festivals in the world, and performed in our own concert at the Piping Centre, which was recorded. Also at the Tron Theartre, and the Royal Concert Hall along with various respected artists. Our performances went very well, and we got a great response. There was a fantastic atmosphere at every venue, and it was a wonderful experience.
Many thanks to everyone who made these tours possible and spent a lot of time organising us bunch of hooligans and taking the time to travel with us and giving their support. A special mention goes to the wonderful Douglas and Marie Montgomery, Gillian and John Dearness, Peter 'Steevo' Stevenson, David Drever, and the long suffering fabulous friends and family for their continuing support.
