    • The Dark Abyss

      Everything is going black.
      It's not a power-out because i can hear the channel nine news on the television next door.
      I try to open my eyes,
      Nothing.
      I can't feel my body.
      It's as if I'm a floating head.
      There are no colours in the world where I am.
      Only darkness.
      I retrace my last steps,
      Coming home from work,
      Boiling the kettle, and taking my shoes off.
      My iPod, i remember turning it on.
      Nothing more.
      I can hear my name being shouted, and my shoulders being shaken.
      I'm regaining consciousness.
      I can taste someone's blood.
      I open my eyes, only to see my guardian angel.
      I smile,
      And then i'm gone again, into the dark abyss, without the return ticket this time.

      taking his life, on this day
      moments like this bring horror
      and the question,
      was it worth it in the end?
      haunting images before me.
      naked blue skin.
      frozen in time, not dead, but not alive.
      sirens in the background are too late for anything.
      checking his wallet, there is a photo.
      i recognise the faces,
      this young man's family, unaware of the disaster.
      i look at the water, freezing cold.
      close my eyes and let go.
      fate creates us, and we defy it.
